Hey guys,

I'm following a Game Studies course at the moment at my University in Utrecht, in the Netherlands. My case-study object is MOHAA. I'm trying to find out what the meaning of World War II in this game is. Some scholars, MacCallum-Steward for example, states that the historical aspect in (war)games is not meant to reproduce a historically accurate depiction of, for example, the Second World War. "By including a historical context, and filling this with accurate imagery and even information, games designers are partly able to offset accusations of violence with the claim that in some part, these events really happened."

I have a few questions about the online multiplayer function of MOHAA, and I'd be really thankful if you could answer these!

1) What team do you prefer to play with? And why?
2) How much do you feel involved with the country(s) you play for in the multiplayer mode?
3) In what way are specific elements of the Second World War coming to the fore?
4) Do you eventually think the Second World War plays an important role in the multiplayer mode?

Once again, I'd really appreciate it if some of you could answer these questions!!

Thank you,
A little boy was talking to a judge man about his parents abusing him.
The judge asked the little boy: "Who would you like to live with?
How about the Wolverines?"

The boy said, "They'll beat me."
The judge then asked, "How about the Buckeyes?"
The boy said again, "They'll beat me too."

Then the judge said, "How about the Spartans?"
The boy said, "Good idea! They won't beat me. They can't beat anyone!"

I find it relatively straight forward. Firstly, destroy the main fuel tank outside the first building from distance so as to take out the RPG guards on the roof, then just machine gun the remaining guards. The guards in the other chopper are relatively easy too ... the hardest bit for me is the three jeeps on the road - you can blow up the barrels to take out the RPG guards, but the barrels for the first jeep are on the far side, and by the time you can see them clearly, the RPG guy is in range to attack you. Its a bit hit and miss, but firing early sometimes gets results. The next bit is the solitary building with some barrels outside - start firing thru the walls, and as you get closer, if there is anyone standing outside, shoot the barrels ! There are also some barrels just inside the door - shoot thru the walls to trigger them. As the chopper curves away, keep gunning at the door til its physically impossible. Then swing round for the final target. Blow up the central fuel tank from distance. Two of the bulidings have RPG guys on the roof, but there are also barrels, again shoot from distance and machine gun those barrels. Take out the guards in the towers, and also check for another RPG guy coming out the door from the middle building - if he's there, take him out before he can fire. If the chopper has yet to land, start firing through the walls of the buildings to take out the guards inside - some are just visible in some of the windows, so take em out.

When the chopper touches down, the best thing to do is stay on the machine gun and gun down the guards who come out of the building and as before shoot thru the building walls at the guys inside, including Major Said ! (use the thermograph to check targets). All you'll have left is the three guards who spawn on the lower roof as you approach the corner building, and the guards who spawn from the garage when you pick up the case - but i've usually a grenade for them which i lob out the window at them ...

Trivia
One time after the chopper landed, i decided to mount the road and run back along it to examine the buildings you pass by in the chopper - and it was quite a walk ! What i discovered was that the RPG guys actually fire heat seeking rockets ! The normal ones just fire straight, and indeed, if you pick one of their weapons up and fire it, it just goes straight. But when they fire, the curve and home in on you ! No wonder they never missed the chopper !

QUOTE: Hiya All,

Not entirely sure if it is going to work. When I try and connect to the multiplayer section of the game Freelancer it only comes up with my server. Are there any other servers out there that it should be listing??? I have opened my ports, installed the 1.1 patch for multiplayer gaming and still nothing comes up?

My IP address is 192.168.0.4 and is called Carnage. I have this running on Monday to Friday 5:30pm to 11pm GMT Time (London).

Can someone join and let me know if it works or if the computer/program is blocking me access to the interent or something.

Cheers
Styliebot
Just a small note, 192.x.x.x is usually a private ip address that would be behind your router/firewall. We would need your global ip address. You can usually get that by going to www.whatsmyipaddress.com . ;)

The Zaleb's Stronghold that I am referring to is the 12th mission in IGI-2. There are no "saves" that I can find. It is a very difficult mission. I was looking for some help on a walkthrough or a cheat code that would save some time. I completed the game but it really means you have to be very lucky to get by all the "bad guys".

Guys, I decided to revisit my halcyon days of MOHAA, and installed the game from the original disks.

When I went to launch it, the game quit (after I had changed all the settings), but when it was loading the training level.

The error was:

Faulting application mohaa.exe, version 1.0.0.1, faulting module gamex86.dll

Now what is really bugging me is that I had this error when I installed it about three years ago, but after searching the net I found the fix.

Now can I find any trace of the fix on the net...nope!

So guys I have Pentium 3.2c, 1Gb Corsair Twinx Ram, Soundblaster Audigy 2 and 1 Terrabyte of hard drive space and Nvidia 6800GT.

I am hoping someone canadvise me on how to fix this, as if I remember rightly it was a really simple fix, I just can't find it!

BTW I have uninstalled an re-installed three times and still (after patch update 1.11) cannot get past the loading game screen withough the above error.

So can anyone please help? Cheers, MP.

Yes the last mission is tough ... and no short-cuts ! In that final zone, i used to make a beeline for the crates in the far left corner, and sidestep in and out and pick off Ekk, but it was too slow and i was too far away from anya and she'd more often or not get shot before i could reach her. So now i just run into the central area at the back where Anya emerges and just Jackhammer Ekk as fast as i can, take out the guards who come and follow Anya out. Its pretty straight forward from there. The toughtest bit for me is the cooling zone where you have to lower the tanks to cool down the reactor. If you don't set up the Prox mines correctly, you have a hell of a time getting down the ladder and making it to the door to exit this area.
