Now ive palyed alot of games in my time....but taking into account the time severence was made...1997 i think and the graphics/game play and even engine i cant help but thinking severence is one of the best games ever made? if you havent played it yet...buy it,there still isnt a game,even a fighting game that has the freedom in combat severence has....mp is very weak but fun over LAN...i think if someone was brave enough to make a sequal it would blow the gaming market away with the engines they have today...please leave your comments thank you....epspecially if youve also played severence :)

Hello everyone. Just a quick heads up to say I'm going to be hosting a SWAT 4 server, Co-op game type.

I will also be using a few additional downloaded maps, of which I can provide the download links for.

Anyone interested, reply here! (i.e Funk.. and Land... you know who u are!) ;)

Please note, I may be password protecting the server initially so that invites through VF.net get priority, so if you don't show an interest here, you may not get in.....

Also, landreith and I are forming a new SWAT 4 clan, called B.T.A.U ... anyone interested in joining / helping out, feel free to contact me. Bonus for anyone who can guess what B.T.A.U stands for! Funk... you interested?

Okay just some stuff in my head about Swat 4

Anyone play it? (I love it... co-op Rocks!)

Anyone been to VU games download site for it? There are some maps to download.... http://www.vugames.com/downloadfile.do?gamePlatformId=1735&mediaid=15912 ... quite funny because they list it as a 3mb download, when in actual fact its 3.5kb!

Anyway, just curious if anyone is playing this title other than me and my friends over here.....

Well here's another game that's been out for a long time now.

Tropico is a island sim city kind of game. There are a wealth of missions open to the player from military to economic and tourism. But this game isn't limited to that there is a random island generator where the player can select from vegetation, elevation, water coverage, starting population and even mineral amount. Then you can pick general game play for your island political environment economic difficulty random event occurrence's to the amount of time that you will rule this can be from 10 to 70 years. You also select from the different victory options available to either make your people happy build a economic power house build up your own retirement fund or just play to your hearts desire in a open ended game. Also open to you are special game rules making your people rebel against you more if they are not happy to free elections to far away place. After you finish with your island generation plan time comes to select your dictator. You can simply go though each person and pick one with out change or you can go though and change them in any way you see fit or just create a dictator in your image. You chose from a list of choices in background, rise to power, traits and flaws. What you chose affects how your game will run as people on the island are divided into factions Military Religion Communist Capitalists Intellectuals and Environmentalist. You also must build to support your island with farms to feed the people and get your economy moving to factories to bring in the big bucks and many other building to support your government and provide infrastructure and make your people happy. As for online play Tropico is lacking. Though all round Tropico is a good game that you can play something new on every time and with catchy spanish music you'll becoming back time and time again. Though Tropicos graphics could use some improvement they aren't too bad. Tropico is a must play for all sim city lovers.

I give tropico a 8.8/10

Gameplay 10 Sound 8 Interactivity 9 Graphics 7 Replayability 10
Lim The Necromancer on "Game Review Stronghold"

Ok guys this games been on the market for a while now but a lot of people I've spoken with have never heard of this game or know only a little bit about it. Well here's the deal

Stronghold is a castle sim set in medieval england. The game offers a massive amount of game play. The military story mode spans 16 missions. You start out with a small band of rouge's loyal to the old king. You must go from mission to mission along the story and bring down the tyrants who have stolen the kingdom. While its objectives will seem like another mindless task game there is more too it than that on the higher difficulties. You must gather resources to both build your castle and feed your people. All the while under the threat of attack. The later missions will require the player to think and manage a bit as a single attack will draw all enemies against your advancing troops and crush them. So wit and daring play off here as well as a bit of luck. The military story campaign is just the tip of the ice burg for this game. It also offers invasion theme scenarios where you are pitted against your enemies from the story missions in a fight for survival. Also it offers the chance to take charge of historical castles and defend them against a merciless wave of attackers. Or you can be siege the castle and do what conquerors of old could not. There are also economic missions you can play a short 5 part economic campaign or do single economic missions. Also the game offers a section known as Free build were you construct your stronghold to no end with out worry. Also open to the player is a scenario construction ability you can create your own siege invasion economic or free build scenarios. Online play is available for this sim as well you can siege your friends castle's or create a castle and have then siege it.

All around this is a good game though some of the later story mode missions will have you ripping your hair out with difficulty. They are beatable. With good graphics and a great story line and game play limited only to your time I give stronghold a 9.5 out of 10.

Ok I'm going for a review section so if any one has any comments on any thing I should add to future reviews to make them better please tell me.

Thanks, Lim

Its likly that over winter break i'll finally buy one of these games and commit to it for a while....From what I hear EQ2 and WOW are the favorites by majority as far as MMORPG's go...I've only seen EQ2 being played on a friends computer. But I hear many think WOW is better - which I havent even seen a trailer for. Which do you think is better and why? - And have you tried or at least seen both in action?

Anyone try this game yet?

I've only played about 3 hours worth of the game. Looks like they did some decent work in some areas...I like the "place" they give you to live in. Very homly :) but im dissapointed that you cant interact with more objects....Also dissapointed with the gameplay itself...I think the original ones style was easier and a little more fun. Graphics are better, but even on high settings, it doesnt appear to be as good as in the trailers I had seen for the game.

Big downside thus far is the fighting...I'm probably more into the Diablo type mass killing sorta thing, but I havent faced very many enemies...This game plays a little more like running errands for grandma.

Anyone else have an opinion on it?

I really enjoyed reading this because I remember playing A LOT of these games (mostly Pathways and Marathon Series) - this was the "big" thing when I was growing up.

http://www.bungie.net/Inside/CustomPage.aspx?section=History&subsection=Main&page=1

For those of you that only know them for Halo, id advise that when your board, you at least check out marathon....of course I dont think it was ever ported to the PC, so if you have a mac (unlikly) grab a $5 buck copy of it.

And if any of you have ever played any of their early games post which one(s). :)

Well it seems if you alter a shader to output a constant color, it turns most objects into that constant color, except for stuff like computer screens etc. and produces up to 40% performance increase on ATI cards! Guys 'n Gals, i've tried this and it really does make a hell of a diference!

Ok i'll explain how to do it, as well as offer the download for those of you that cant be bothered doing it!!

Download and extract to ' \Doom3\Base\ '
http://esprit.campus.luth.se/~humus/temp/doom3PerformanceTweak.rar

Website URL:
http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14874

Manual Instructions:
First, open your doom3\base folder. Doubleclick on the pak000.pk4 file. In the "window can't open this file .. .bla bla" dialog, go on and associate the file with an app like WinRar. With this file open in WinRar, go to the glprogs directory in the file. In there you'll find the shaders. The interaction.vfp file seems to be the main rendering shader. Altering this shader to output a constant color turns most objects into that constant color, except for stuff like computer screens etc.

So doubleclick the interaction.vfp file to open it (you may have to associate the .vfp extension with a text editor like notepad or wordpad first since we're going to edit the file). Scroll down to the fragment shader. You'll find these rows:

Code:

PARAM subOne = { -1, -1, -1, -1 };
PARAM scaleTwo = { 2, 2, 2, 2 };

Add this right below them:

Code:

PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 };

Now scroll down to this:

Code:

# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;

Comment out that line by adding a "#" to it, and add another line that will do the same thing with math instead, so it should look like this:

Code:

# perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
# TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
POW R1, specular.x, specExp.x;

Save the file and close your text editor. WinRar will ask if you want to update the file in the archive, select yes. Close WinRar and enjoy about 40% higher performance in Doom3. Haven't done extensive testing yet, but my performance went from 34fps in 1280x1024 to 48fps.

There you have it, you ATI folk!

As you might of noticed the network has never really supported games that required a subscription. Because they are becoming more popular I'm starting to take them into consideration. Please take the poll and less us know what you think. Also post what games youd like to see us add content for on the network - if your in favor.

This is the first RPG I've enjoyed in a while. If your a fan of Morrowind but want a little more action then the whole hit/miss thing I'd pick this game up. The only RPG's ive ever been a big fan of: Gothic 2 (for action), Morrowind (for length and detail), Diablo Series (for both). Oh...and Dungeon Siege...very good game....I'd actually fit that one in over Diablo 2, but the Multi Player part has too many peeps cheating and lags bad if your not at least on cable/DSL.
