I've recently got rid of my old CRT monitor and bought a nice little GNR 19" Widescreen LCD monitor. But i get a bizarre effect on IGI2; when i switch to the map view, the blue triangles over the enemy soldiers dont line up ! They also vary in how far away from a particular solider they are, and if i pan across the map, the arrows move differently to the soliders ! Its almost like the arrows are on a layer above the guards and they arent in sync. Just wondering if anyone else gets it ? My screen resolution is 1280 x 768, and no other games/programs seem to have any issues at all.

I've been brooding over a certain question for some time now, and wonder if it makes sense? So I'm asking my fellow IGI fans! :D

Has anyone wondered if the realism of IGI 1 or 2 means anything?
Even the 2003 slogan for Codemasters: "Genius at Play" could imply that the makers of the game are geniuses at play, right? What if those geniuses were playing at telling us gamers something?

 I've wondered if the realism tells us gamers that IGI-style covert warfare EXISTS, right now, present day (or maybe 10-15 years ago since some of the plot lines are dated compared to say, the Splinter Cell series.)

And in the Splinter Cell series, the realism is more stealthy and the plots are higher tech, which might only be a reflection of the increased stakes and complexity of the actual covert wars being fought in real time...

Like IGI team is "soldier of fortune", seat-of-your-pants covert warfare, and Splinter Cell is more like NSA or CIA or similar level of "play"...

The funny thing in the Splinter Cell series is that there are occasional script devices which tease the gamer into questioning whether what is being depicted is just a game or not! (I've got pics!)

And so the basic question is whether the realism in IGI 1 or 2 means anything? (And I realize that as 'real' as the games are, they've got their faults. But we also know that they're decent games for 2000 (IGI) and 2003 (IGI 2) respectively.)

But it's also an incomplete question, because I've thought about IGI's realism compared to say the "realism" in the Soldier of Fortune series, which is much more like a violent, gory cartoon. Or the "realism" of WWII shooters, which are much more about setting a scene, or cinematography...

I could go on... :p ...only if you IGI fans are interested! - BMS

PS

The largest context of the question is the larger universe of other FPS games, like the Splinter Cell series, or Far Cry, or Soldier of Fortune, or even sci-fi type games like Half-Life and/or Doom 3, or Return to Castle Wolfenstein...

CLEARING THE UPPER PART OF THE MINES

Now return to the upper part of the mines via the ventilation shaft. Once again, when nearing its end, switch to WALK mode, else one of the enemies inside the nearby room will hear you. Once you leave the ventilation shaft, switch to CROUCH-WALK mode, and carefully open the doors on the aforementioned room from its right side (see this pic). Don?t go directly in front of the doors! Instead, go around that shelf behind you, and once you have a clear view inside the room, STOP (DON'T GO ANY FURTHER, or one of the guards inside may spot you!).

Now throw one grenade inside the room and immediately strafe a bit to the right, so you won?t be wounded by the blast. Try to throw the grenade in a way that it rebounds from the wall towards the right side of the room (where all the guys are standing), and it should kill them all. Now immediately throw another grenade to the area where the 2 guys are standing near the truck, and then wait for the blast. If you hear someone screaming, just throw the remaining grenade there, and it should finish the job. In case there?s a silence, both guards should be dead. Anyway, if you don?t have any grenade left and there?s still someone of them alive, quickly lie flat in CRAWL mode and finish him/them with your silencer.

Alternatively, you can even kill the AK47 guards using your knife! It?s pretty easy and quick, though not always reproducible. Just position yourself directly in front of the doors (a bit to the left, that is), and then start making noisy steps in WALK or RUN mode till you alert the guys inside. Once they make that characteristic scream of being alerted, immediately switch to CROUCH-WALK mode, quickly open the doors, and hide behind it! The trick is to be hugged to the doors (see this pic), but don?t expose yourself too much, or you?ll be spotted. Now just wait till the guys come out, and hold down the fire button. If everything goes OK, the guards should be running exactly to the place where you?ve been making those noisy steps from (that?s why I told you to stand there!), so you should kill them all as they come ? one by one (see this pic). The 2 guards behind the truck won?t notice a thing. I must say, though, that this tactic won?t always work, firstly because there?s a big risk of being spotted, and secondly because it?s very likely that some of the guards may manage to exit the room without being hit by your knife (even if you hold down the fire button)?

RIDING THE TRAIN

Now you can finally ride that train which will carry you to the ventilation shaft leading to the next level, so go back to the lower part of the mines and use the switch to open the tunnel gates (2nd objective accomplished), and then hit another switch located on the train to get it going (3rd objective accomplished). Note: before riding the train, make sure you have as much grenades as you can and also have the AK47 as your primary weapon (the dead AK47 guards can give you both).

Once the train gets going, quickly jump over to the REAR wagon (this is important!), and then lie flat in CRAWL mode. After cca 15 seconds of ride, a train containing 4 enemies will pop up from the opposite direction. This is a bit strange, because if you hide yourself in the first wagon, the enemies would almost certainly spot you (a bit weird, isn't it?), whereas if you hide yourself in the rear one, they (for some uknown reason) won?t spot you at all?

Now just wait till the train rides you to the ventilation shaft (4th objective completed), and once your and the enemy?s train stops, jump off the wagon?s end in CROUCH-WALK mode (if you do it as described, the enemies won?t spot you). Now carefully approach the enemy train (in CROUCH-WALK, then CRAWL mode), until you get close to the first wagon. There are 2 guys standing in this wagon, both very easy to kill. The one positioned nearer is looking at the opposite direction, so just get close enough to have a decent look at him WHILST his buddy WON?T have a chance to spot you (use the thermal vision/peaking to know this), and then kill him with a headshot from your AK47. The other guy won?t react at all (rather strange, isn?t it?), so just do that thermal-vision-aiming "trick" (the one which you?ve used in the very first mission) to aim at his head, and then fire 1-2 shots through the wagon. You should hear his body falling on the ground, but in case he?s still alive (use the thermal vision to know this), fire another couple of shots to finish him. The other 2 enemies (located in the very first wagon) will hear the shots and stare towards your direction, so just wait for a while till they resume their original guarding positions (use the peaking to know this), and then carefully approach them HUGGED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRAIN. Now once you?re about 3 m away from the wagon they?re in, STOP! Use the thermal vision to check the position of the guards. You?re going to kill the guy located on the left as first, so once again, use that thermal-vision-aiming ?trick? to aim at his head, and then fire a couple of shots from your AK47 through the wagon. DON'T GO TOO CLOSE TO THE WAGON, or (for some unknown reason) the guy will start shooting at you! Just keep the aforementioned distance, and once he?s dead, do the same to his buddy ? and that?s it! There?s no enemy left for you to kill in this mission, so you can now finally access the ventilation shaft leading to the weather station. Mission 2 accomplished!

THE 3 GUARDS NEAR THE CRATES, THE PATROLLING GUARD & THE GUARD NEAR THE ELEVATOR

You can have a lot of fun killing these 5 guys! There are basically 2 ways on how to do it:

1ST APPROACH: KILLING THE GUARD NEAR THE ELEVATOR AS FIRST, THEN BLASTING THE REMAINING 4 WITH A GRENADE:

First, go back to the ventilation shaft via the same route as you came here (i.e. run around the shack, so the enemies can?t see you). When you?re near the shaft, use the CROUCH-WALK mode to get close to the guard standing near the elevator via jumping on the rocks (see this pic). Try to be positioned as close as you can to the guard whilst the patrolling guy WON?T see you! Now AS SOON AS the patrolling guy starts going away from you (use the peaking to know this), quickly approach the guard standing near the elevator and break his neck. Once that?s done, don?t waste any time and quickly follow the patrolling guard till you have a clear look at both him & the 3 guards standing near the crates. Don?t go any further, or the guards may notice you! Just go as far as to see all the 4 guys.

Now wait till the patrolling guy joins the 3 guards standing near the crates and then toss one grenade somewhere in this area. Usually, the leftmost guard will not bother to run when the grenade bounces (once again, what a ?superb? AI!), so just don?t throw it behind the crates, else he will survive the blast. The other guards will most probably run to all directions, so try to not throw the grenade directly in front of the crates either, or someone of them will remain alive. Simply, try to throw it to the designated area, and the guards won?t stand a chance (see this pic). But anyway, in case someone survives the blast, try to kill him before he can raise the alarm (using the silenced pistol & lying in CRAWL mode, of course).

2ND APPROACH: KILLING THE PATROLLING GUARD & THE GUARD NEAR THE ELEVATOR SILENTLY, THEN KILLING THE 3 GUARDS NEAR THE CRATES:

Believe or not, it?s even possible to kill the patrolling guard & the guard standing near the elevator in a silent way! Of course, if you try to kill the guard standing near the elevator as described in the 1st approach, you won?t be able to reach his patrolling buddy without being spotted by the guys near the crates. Therefore, you must do it vice-versa (i.e. killing the patrolling guy as first). How come? It?s a bit complicated to describe, but rather easy to do:)

First, notice the patrolling guy?s route. As you can see, he?s walking a relatively long stretch between the elevator and the 3 guys standing near the crates. Though it may seem impossible at first, if you?re really quick, you can indeed kill him when he?s just starting to walk back towards the elevator ? and this without being noticed! As you?ll see, the guy always changes his patrolling route towards the elevator just as he passes the crates where the 3 aforementioned guards stand nearby, so the key for you is to be quick, really quick.

First, approach the crates from behind (be assured you don?t carry your primary weapon!), and when there, position yourself HUGGED (this is important!) towards the leftmost crate, standing in CROUCH-WALK mode (see this pic). Now move with the mouse a bit to look at the LEFT HALF of the crate (remain hugged to the crates!), and carefully keep pressing the forward key till the outer edge of the crate will be in one line with this depression created by the nearby rocks (the white line represents the pattern created by the rocks which you can?t see, since it is hidden behind the crate). DON'T GO ANY FURTHER THAN THIS, or the guy you?re about to kill may spot you when approaching!

Now use the peaking to know when the patrolling guy is nearing the crates, and AS SOON AS he changes his patrolling route back towards the elevator, quickly approach him using the strafe keys, and then twist his neck. All this happens literally in milliseconds (not to mention the fact, that the neck-breaking icon will only appear for a very, very brief moment), so you must be really quick. It also requires a perfect timing, i.e. if you start your approach too late, you won?t reach the guy in time; if you start your approach too soon, he?ll be still walking towards you (and thus he'll spot you). The key is to kill him AS SOON AS that neck-breaking icon pops up, else the guard positioned nearest to you will notice his death. If you did it as described, he will maybe hear the corpse falling on the ground and stare towards your direction, but since he can?t see through the crates, he will calm down after a while (see this pic).

Now the patrolling guy is dead, the rest is a piece of cake! First, go back to the guard standing near the elevator (via the same way ? i.e. going around the shack), and quickly twist his neck. Note that if you kill the guards standing near the crates BEFORE killing this guy, he will hear the shouts and go to investigate, so it?s necessary to kill him now. Once he?s dead, return back via the same route to where you?ve came from (i.e. near the crates). Hug the left side of the crates, and then quickly kill the nearest of the 3 guys standing there with your knife. DON'T GO ANY FURTHER than what is required to kill this guy, or the other guards will spot you! Once he?s killed, IMMEDIATELY retreat behind the crates and wait. One of the remaining guards will automatically start running for the alarm switch (ignoring you completely), whilst the other will stand still for a while, so quickly kill the runaway guy by breaking his neck (you must be in RUN mode, of course), and once that?s done, IMMEDIATELY hide behind the crates, so the remaining guy (who at this time starts running) won?t see you before he notices the corpses. He will maybe aim at you, but still, he won?t notice you at all (a bit weird, isn?t it?), so you know the rest. If everything goes OK, you should see something like this:)

Also, it?s even possible to kill all the 3 guards standing near the crates by twisting their necks, though I don?t recommend you using this tactic, since it depends highly on luck. The trick is to make all 3 guys look at the same direction, then approach them from the left side of the crates & quickly kill the nearest of them by twisting his neck, and then kill the other 2 as they come running for the alarm switch. It?s pretty simple: position yourself behind the rightmost part of the crates as close to the right as you can without being spotted by the enemies (see this pic), and then make a couple of steps in RUN or WALK mode to make all 3 guys look at the same direction. Once that?s done, immediately switch to CROUCH-WALK mode and approach them from the left side of the shack. Kill ASAP the nearest guy, and then immediately hide yourself behind the crates. Now just wait till the remaining guys run for the alarm switch, and kill them one by one. The most critical phase of this approach is without any doubt the moment when you?re about to kill the first guy. Sometimes they?ll spot you, sometimes not ? it just depends on luck?

Anyway, once when I played the level, I accidentally forgot to kill the guy standing near the elevator prior to killing these 3 guys. Of course, he heard the shouts and went to investigate, but since I was able to kill all 3 guys before he could spot me, it was then a piece of cake to kill him once he spotted the corpses and began to run for the alarm switch. And boy, what a nice view it was! 5 guys killed without one single drop of blood ? superb!

THE 6 AK47 GUARDS

Now go back near the ventilation shaft and open the doors located just to the right of it (when closing in, switch to WALK, then CROUCH-WALK mode). There?s a small hallway inside with 2 doors at its end. Don?t mind the doors on the right, as there?s only an empty room full of closets behind it. Instead, open the doors located just opposite you. There?s a room containing 6 guards equipped with AK47s behind these doors, so you?ll have to be a bit careful when opening it. Simply, go just enough to make that door-opening icon pop up, and AS SOON AS you open the doors, go backwards (else one of the guys may spot you). Now go outside the hallway and position yourself just in front of the doors, so you could see both the hallway and the room where those 6 guards are (see this pic). The rest is simple: stand up, and throw one grenade, preferably in the middle of the room. In case you won?t hear anyone shouting after the blast, they?re all dead, but if there?s someone screaming, immediately throw another grenade, which should finish the work. Occasionally (but that?s very rare), one of the guards may go out through the hallway, but for some weird reason, if you stand still, he won?t spot you. Just kill him with your silenced pistol, and that?s it!

Anyway, as you?ll see, this blonde guy will always join his buddy at the far end of his patrolling route, but before that, he will also make another ?additional? stop (roughly halfway to his comrade), giving you precious time to reach him and then kill him either with the knife or by twisting his neck. Sometimes, though, he just pauses for a very brief moment, so you?ll have to chase him. If this scenario happens, try to kill him with the knife, or you won?t have the time to reach the other guy before he turns back (alternatively, you can also retreat back to the shack, and wait for another try). In case he stands still a bit longer (happens most of the times), you can even twist his neck and then quickly do the same to the other guy (see this pic). This 2nd guy usually walks straightforward and then stops at the end of his patrolling route much sooner than his blonde buddy, but if you didn?t waste any time killing the blonde guy, you should have just enough time to reach him before he starts walking back. You may even use the WALK mode a bit when approaching this 2nd guy (to be even quicker) and then quickly switch back to CROUCH-WALK as you get closer. This basically depends on where you?ve killed the blonde guy (i.e. if you?ve killed him too close to the other guy, you can only use the CROUCH-WALK mode; if you?ve killed him further from the other guy, use the WALK + CROUCH-WALK combination). But anyway, be careful, because if the 2nd guy hears your steps, your cover will be blown? Sometimes, though, even if he hears you, you may still remain unseen, as he will just spot his buddy?s corpse and then run like a madman towards the nearby alarm switch (i.e. he will ignore you), but this depends highly on luck?

Alternatively, you can just RUN away from the blonde guy?s corpse as far as you can and then quickly lie flat in CRAWL mode. The other guy will of course hear you, but since you?ll be too far from him, he won?t spot you. He will only start running, but once he sees the corpse of his buddy on the ground, he will of course run for an alarm switch ? and this is your time to kill him. This approach has also one considerable advantage ? that is, once he sees his dead buddy on the ground, he WON?T alert any of the nearby guards. How come? If you pay close attention, you?ll see that these 2 guards patrolling the railway are both very sensible. That is, once they hear EVEN ONE CURIOUS SOUND, they?ll immediately start running (contrary to other enemies, who will only stare towards the direction where they?ve heard the sound coming from). But since an alerted enemy in IGI 2 (i.e. an running enemy who was previously walking or standing still) WON?T alert any unalerted guards after noticing the corpse on the ground, you don?t need to worry about it. In other words, once the guy hears your steps, he will be alerted IMMEDIATELY ? and thus he won?t alert the other guys once he notices his buddy?s corpse.

Anyway, there?s also a 3rd approach on how to kill these 2 patrolling guys. It?s pretty simple? Just follow the blonde guy till he stops near his buddy at the far side of their patrolling route, then IMMEDIATELY kill him and ASAP get slightly to the left of the other guy, using strafe keys (see this pic). By doing this, you?ll get as close to him as possible without risk of being seen (since he always turns to the right). In most of the cases, he won?t notice anything except the sound of the corpse falling on the ground. He will only beep something, and then resume his patrolling as if nothing had happened (now that?s what I call an AI!), so just break his neck, and that?s it! If you?re really quick, he won?t even have a chance to say something (see this pic)? It?s a bit strange, since this guy will normally start running once he hears even one curious sound, but here, he will do nothing.

So as you can see, if you can rid yourself of your primary weapon + use the strafe keys, you can have a lot of fun in IGI 2 killing just 2 enemies :)

THE GUARD NEAR THE TUNNEL GATE

You can basically have two options on how to kill this guy: either when the nearby cameras are still active, or after you turn them off. Either way, you?ll kill him silently from behind (that is by twisting his neck). As for the first scenario, there?s really not much I can say (since it?s almost childish easy)... But in case you want to kill him now (i.e. when the cameras are still on), the key is to approach him via the RIGHT side of the tracks, else the cameras will notice you. As you?ll see, this guy regularly turns his sight either towards (he stays like this for a long while) or away from the tunnel gate (staying like this for a couple of seconds). Of course, you?ll kill him when he?s looking TOWARDS the gate, so just wait in a safe distance (lying in CRAWL mode) till he turns his sight towards the gate, and then approach him directly, walking on the right side of the tracks (see this pic). There will be a light pole standing in your way (btw, if you hide behind this pole, the guy won?t notice you at all, so you can thus start your approach from a much shorter distance!), so avoid it by strafing to the left, and then resume the direct approach until you?re close enough to the guy. The camera on the left may beep a couple of times, but luckily for you, the nearby light pole will block its view (see this pic), so you can kill the guy without any worries. Once he?s dead, just stand up and then quickly RUN to the right till you?re in a safe distance from the cameras. Alternatively, you may also use the knife to kill this guy, but since the corpse may sometimes fall differently on the ground (which won?t always remain unnoticed by the cameras), I don?t recommend you using this tactic.

Note: You may try to kill this guy BEFORE killing the 2 guys patrolling the railway, and then hide behind the nearby crates and approach them once they start walking away from you (i.e. towards the ventilation shaft), but it depends on luck, since sometimes they can spot his corpse.

TURNING OFF THE CAMERAS

Now it?s time to clear the area where the camera terminal is situated. There are 5 guards in the surrounding area: 3 standing by the nearby crates + 1 guard patrolling the area between these 3 guys and the elevator + 1 guard in the room upstairs (where the computer shutting the cameras is).

You?re going to kill the guard inside the computer room as first, so just run around (or better said WALK around) the nearby shack, and then hide behind the nearby crates. Use the peaking to check the position of the patrolling guard, and when he?s moving away, quickly ascend the stairs in CROUCH-WALK mode. When inside the room, use the computer to turn off the security cameras (2nd objective accomplished), grab all the grenades you can from the shelves (if you haven?t any entering this level), and then carefully open the doors to the closet, where the guard is standing. Of course, he will hear the doors opening, but if you open them from its LEFT side (see this pic), there?s no way he can spot you. You?re going to kill this guy from behind, so it?s necessary to have these doors open prior to the killing (if it was shut, he would've heard the opening and turned towards you).

Now exit the room via the stairs (you can also jump off the railing). Once again, pay attention to the patrolling guy before leaving (i.e. wait, till he?s going away from you, and then make your move). Now position yourself somewhere as on this pic, and then make a couple of noisy steps in WALK or RUN mode, which will make the guy inside the room to look towards your direction. AS SOON AS that happens, switch to CROUCH-WALK mode and quickly go back to the room above you (using strafe keys, of course). If you didn?t waste any time, you should reach the guy inside while he is still looking towards the direction where he had heard your steps from (see this pic), so just quickly break his neck ? and he?s gone!

So here?s my walkthrough for the 2nd mission, called ?Deep in the Mines?. This is without any doubt the quickest (and perhaps the easiest) level from the whole game, last but not least because there are only 28 enemies ? which is by far the lowest number from any of the levels in IGI 2.

THE FIRST 2 ENEMIES

When the mission starts, the elevator which you?ve used in the previous mission will ride you down to the mining area. Your 1st objective is to access the lower part of the mines. This can be done either by riding an elevator or by going through a nearby ventilation shaft (you?ll use this 2nd option). But first, you?ll have to kill the 2 guys guarding the surrounding area ? one of them standing near the camera, and the other patrolling nearby.

As you?ll see, the guard near the camera regularly changes his position by walking slightly nearer towards the elevator (standing there for a couple of seconds) and then by walking back (stopping there for a long while). On the other hand, his patrolling buddy just constantly walks back and forth a long stretch, stopping at both sides of his patrolling route for a while. You?re going to kill this patrolling guy first. The trick is to kill him when he?s FAR AWAY from the other guy, preferably BEFORE he stops at the far end of his patrolling route. Simply, if you kill him somewhere in this dark area, the other guy won?t spot his corpse at all... How to do it? Just follow this approach:

When the level starts, immediately drop your primary weapon! If everything goes OK, you won?t need it in this level anymore (with one exception discussed later) + it will make you a bit faster. Immediately after you drop your primary weapon, hold down the forward key in RUN mode, so you could leave the elevator as soon as possible. Once you?re off the elevator, continue running towards the patrolling guy, who at this time starts walking to the right (i.e. away from the other guy). Of course, he?ll hear your steps if you go too close to him, so just run as close to him as you can without being heard, and then quickly switch to WALK mode (basically, you can run as far as the first lamp). Now continue pursuing him till you?re about to leave that cave corridor you?re in, and then immediately switch to CROUCH-WALK mode, otherwise the guy near the camera (who at this time RETURNS BACK FROM THE ELEVATOR) will spot you. You don?t need to use the strafe keys when going through that corridor (i.e. when using the RUN and WALK mode), because if you?re too quick, the guy near the camera will spot you. Anyway, once you leave that corridor, continue approaching the patrolling guy diagonally (this time with using the strafe keys), and as soon as that neck-breaking icon pops up, kill him. It may seem a bit difficult to master this approach at first, but a couple of tries will do the trick for you. If you keep the RUN + WALK + CROUCH-WALK approach (see this pic) & do it continuously (i.e. without stopping), you should have no problems to kill this guy before he stops at the far end of his patrolling route.

Now as soon as the patrolling guy is dead, quickly hide behind the nearby truck. Since the other guy at this time will only START WALKING TOWARDS THE ELEVATOR, you should?ve no problems to get behind that truck before he can spot you on his way back (you can even use WALK mode when going behind that truck, if you want). Now once the guy returns back (use the peaking to know this), he will stand still for about 20 seconds, so use this time to open the doors leading to the ventilation shaft, and then hug this nearby wall. At this time, the guy will be ABOUT TO WALK TOWARDS THE ELEVATOR again, so get close to him as you can whilst being close to that wall (by doing this, he won?t have a chance to notice you), and then use the peaking to know when he returns back from the elevator. Once he?s back, quickly approach him in CROUCH-WALK mode (using strafe keys, of course) and then break his neck. If you did it as described, the camera above will be turned (or will be still turning) TOWARDS elevator, and thus it won?t notice the killing at all. Once again, if you did this whole approach as described (i.e. without any interruption), you should have absolutely no problems to kill this 2nd guy. It just requires a couple of tries before you?ll get fully accustomed to it.

Alternatively, you may also try a much quicker approach to kill these 2 guys. Simply, when the level starts, approach the patrolling guy as described above, but instead of twisting his neck, kill him with the knife (which will save you a lot of time). Once he?s dead, IMMEDIATELY get close to the other guy (using the WALK, then CROUCH-WALK mode) and kill him with a headshot from your silencer (or by twisting his neck/stabbing him). If you didn?t waste any time killing the patrolling guy, you should have plenty of time to aim perfectly at his head before he moves towards the elevator. The camera may beep a couple of times, but it won?t spot the corpse at all! Note: If you?re REALLY (but I mean REALLY!) quick, you can even kill BOTH guys by twisting their necks using this same approach. The key is to hold down the forward + strafe keys when killing the patrolling guy (I mean during that cutscene) and then perform the RUN + WALK + CROUCH-WALK combination to get as quick to the other guy as possible (though it's also possible to do it via WALK + CROUCH-WALK).

GOING DOWN

There are still 7 enemies left for you to kill in this upper part of the mines (5 in the nearby room + another 2 behind the truck), but since killing them may sometimes alert the enemies in the lower part of the mines, you?ll do it later.

Now it?s time to descend to the lower part of the mines. Of course, you can use the elevator, but since there?s a guy standing right underneath it (+ another one patrolling nearby), it?s better to use the ventilation shaft. You can go through it using even the RUN mode, and still, no one will hear you. The 5 guys inside the nearby room may beep something, but they wouldn?t hear your steps long enough to be alerted, so just run all the way through that shaft. When nearing its end, switch to WALK mode, and then carefully get out of it, lying in CRAWL mode. The 1st objective is now accomplished.

THE 2 GUARDS PATROLLING THE RAILWAY

Now notice that small terrain depression just in front of the shaft. If you position yourself properly in this depression, the 2 guys patrolling the railway won?t see you at all (see this pic). As you can see, these 2 guys always stop at each end of their patrolling route for a while, so just wait till they?re walking away, and then carefully crawl towards the left side of the nearby shack (see this pic). Just be careful, because one of these guys (from now on, I will call him ?blonde guy?, since he has blonde hair) may occasionally turn back when walking away, so just wait till he?s in a safe distance, and then make your move! Just remain hugged to the rocks (and in crawl mode, of course) when getting towards that shack, else the guy standing near the elevator may notice you.

Now carefully approach the front left corner of the shack (hugged to the wall). Both guards should now be on their way back, so just wait a bit, and then use the peaking/thermal vision to be assured they?re both BEHIND the shack (in which case they won?t spot you), and then quickly open the doors and hide inside.

Again, you can have a lot of fun killing those 2 guys :) The trick is to kill them when they?re on their way TOWARDS the railway tunnel. The shack you?re in will provide you a perfect position for commencing your approach, so the rest is pretty simple? First, switch to CROUCH-WALK mode, then equip your knife, and position yourself hugged to the doorcase (while being still INSIDE the shack). Use the peaking to know when the guys once again start walking towards the railway tunnel, and AS SOON as the blonde guy is around 1-2 m away from this nearby shelf, start approaching him diagonally, using strafe keys. This guy is a bit of a problem, because his patrolling route is not always the same. Sometimes, he just goes straightforward (see this pic), but sometimes, his patrolling route tends to have a zig-zag pattern, making it harder for you to leave the shack without being noticed (see this pic). In that case, you?ll basically have to wait till he passes that aforementioned shelf to be assured you can leave the shack without any worries, since in most of the cases he won?t do any ?unnecessary? zig-zags from there on. Another important thing is to WATCH THE GUY?S HEAD. That is, if he?s turned to the right (i.e. away from you), there?s a big possibility that he won?t spot you (in which case you can leave the shack MUCH sooner), but if he?s turned to the left (i.e. towards you), you?ll have to wait a bit longer to start your approach?

THE GUARDS NEAR THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE

There are 6 guys in total guarding the other side of the bridge ? 4 inside the barracks, and another 2 outside it (standing near the alarm switch). The 2 guys outside are very easy to kill. First of all, you need to hide behind those nearby crates. It may seem a bit difficult at first (since the crates can?t completely hide you from both guys when approaching), but as you get closer to them, you?ll notice that the upper crate can indeed block the guards' view (see this pic), so if you approach them in correct angle + in CRAWL mode, they won?t spot you at all.

Once you?re near the crates, switch to CROUCH-WALK mode and activate the Thermal vision. Hug the crates, and then position yourself near its left side as close as you can in order to not be seen by any of those 2 guys (see this pic). Now deactivate the thermal vision, which will make both guys staring in your direction. Once that?s done, don?t waste any time! Quickly go around the right side of the crates (using strafe keys, of course) and then kill both guys by twisting their necks. If you didn't waste any time (that is, if your forward & strafe key were already pressed during that cutscene when killing the first guy), they won?t have a chance to notice something - see this pic.

Now destroy the nearby camera with your silencer and then pay attention to the 4 guys inside the barracks. You can kill them in 2 ways:

1. By luring them out via shooting to their legs, then finishing them with a grenade & your silencer

2. By simply shooting them through the doors with the AK47 (by doing this, you won?t be able to collect the AK47s and grenades, which they occasionally leave).

If you want to kill them outside the barracks, just let them open the bridge gate first (you can?t open it from where you?re standing now) and THEN do the killing.

In case you want to just shred them with AK47 fire before they can come out to investigate, you?ll have to jump the fence and then open the bridge gate from the other side. The trick is to jump on those crates located near the bridge and then do sort of a ?double jump?. That means you?ll first jump on the fence, and then immediately make one more jump to fall through it (see this pic). It?s a bit tough, but it?s possible. Anyway, if you want to use this 2nd option, the trick is to once again activate the Thermal vision and then aim at the 2 guys who are in line. But contrary to the 1st approach (where your goal was to just injure them), this time you?re going to kill them, so point at their chests (see this pic). Once they?re in your aim, fire cca 5 shots, which will usually be more than enough to kill both guys. Immediately after you fire these shots, activate the Thermal vision. Usually, one of the guys will try to throw a smoke grenade (whilst the other will do nothing), so use this brief moment to point exactly at his body and then fire another couple of shots towards his direction + another salvo towards the direction of his buddy. Since your shots leave marks on the doors, it?s always easy to memorize how far to the left or to the right the given guy is positioned from these marks, so you should have absolutely no problems to aim properly and then kill the remaining guys before they can open the front doors.

THE LAST 4 ENEMIES

Now all the guys in the barracks are dead, cross the bridge and then do the same with the guys in the barracks located on the other side of the river (if you haven?t killed them yet). If you?ve already killed them before, just grab all the AK47s from their dead bodies, and then pay attention to the 4 enemies patrolling the area near the 1st factory building. Once again, there are various ways to kill them. You can try to throw some grenades, or shoot them with your silenced pistol, but my favourite approach is to go inside that factory building and then shoot them through the wall with your AK47 as they approach the southwestern corner of the building (see this pic). Just hug the wall and then use the thermal vision to determine the guards? position. Usually when you fire a shot, they?ll stop walking for a while, so use this time to make a good aim, then fire a couple of shots (the marks on the wall will once again help you with the aiming). Once you kill the first guy, they?ll usually start running along that wall, so just follow them and then kill them one by one.

Once these 4 guys are dead, there?s no one enemy left for you to kill in this level, so go back all the way to that bunker-like building at the other side of the river and then use the lift to enter the mines (hit the 2nd switch). Mission 1 accomplished!

ACTIVATING THE LIFT

Now enter the large, bunker-like building, where the lift leading to the mines is located. There are 9 enemies in this building: 2 guarding the lift, and another 7 in the nearby room. The 2 guys near the lift are very easy to kill. Once again, you can try various ways, but I would recommend mainly 2 approaches:

1. See those crates between the 2 trucks? Position yourself near its left side (lying in CRAWL mode, of course), so you could only see the head of the nearer guy (see this pic). Now fire one precise shot to his head, then quickly hide behind the crates. The other guy will of course notice the killing, but since his only intention afterwards will be to run for the nearby alarm switch, you can easily intercept him on his way by twisting his neck ? and he?s gone! Just aim properly before killing the first guy, because if you miss, both guys will be of course alerted. If this happens, you may try a quick 2nd shot to kill the first guy. Simply, don?t let him spot you!

2. You can kill even both guys by twisting their necks! How come? Once again, it?s very easy. The trick is to use the nearby truck as a cover. Simply, CRAWL along its left side (hugged to it, using strafe keys), then immediately twist the nearer guy?s neck (see this pic). You don?t even need to be in front of the truck to make that neck-breaking icon appear, so just don't waste any time and kill him as soon as the icon popups. Most of the times, the other guy won?t notice you at all (if you use the CRAWL mode, that is). Actually, it only happened to me only once (he spotted me when I was just about to kill the first guy), so there?s a chance, if small. Now as soon as the killing cutscene ends, quickly retreat behind the truck, and once the other guy notices his dead buddy and starts running for the alarm switch, intercept him as he passes behind the truck (see this pic). Of course, the reaction time of this 2nd guy may vary, i.e. sometimes he?ll notice the killing during the cutscene, sometimes he?ll be alerted when his buddy will be already lying dead on the floor. Occasionally, if he notices the killing too early, you may not reach him in time to prevent him hitting that alarm switch. If this happens, just kill him with a short burst from your MP5A3 submachine gun as he stops near the alarm switch (the enemies inside the room shouldn?t hear the shots).

Now it?s time to kill the 7 guys located in the nearby room. Since you can?t open the doors leading to the room (once again, what a clever idea from the authors!), it?s a bit difficult to kill them as well as to collect the weapons which they leave behind, but it?s possible.

Now your following approach depends on what you?ve done before: i.e. if you?ve left the guys inside the barracks on the other side of the river alive (in order to kill them later with AK47), you?ll not only have to kill those 7 enemies inside the nearby room, but also to grab the AK47s from their dead bodies (in order to have enough ammo to kill the guys on the other side of the river). In case you?ve killed the guys on the other side of the river outside the barracks, killing those 7 enemies inside the nearby room will be all what you?ll have to do.

Anyway, the trick is to once again lure them out ? this time, with one good grenade throw. Firstly, position yourself hugged to the wall just opposite the doors leading to the room (standing in CROUCH-WALK mode), then equip the grenades and point your aim just slightly to the left of the doorcase center (see this pic). The reason for this is simple: if you throw a grenade exactly in front of the doors' center, the enemies will of course try to get out of the room, but since they'll usually open the LEFT side of the doors, those who were hidden behind the RIGHT side will most probably survive the blast. But if you throw the grenade just slightly to the left of the doors' center, there's a big possibility of killing them all. Anyway, once you throw the grenade, quickly switch to Thermal vision and just wait for the blast. There are several situations which may occur:

1st scenario ? the blast will kill them all (see this pic). It?s clearly the best possible scenario for you, because you can then easily run inside the room and collect the guys? weapons without any worries (in case you needed them, that is).

2nd scenario ? the blast will kill all but one guy. This is again a very favourable situation, because there will be just one enemy remaining ? and you can kill him easily with your silenced pistol once he goes out to investigate, and then run inside to collect the weapons (in case you needed them). Usually, he will run to the doors and try to throw a smoke grenade (though in reality he won?t throw anything) and then he?ll simply pass through the doors like a "ghost" ? a bug! I have no explanation for this behavior, but it seems to me as if this guy is indeed inside the room, despite appearing as if he was outside of it (hence the opening of the doors). Anyway, once he ?passes? through that door, don?t shoot him yet! Just wait a couple of seconds and he?ll open the door. Once he does that, quickly kill him with your silencer, and then immediately RUN inside to collect the weapons from the dead bodies (in case you needed them). If you didn?t waste any time, you should reach the doors before they can shut forever.

3rd scenario ? the blast will kill all but two (or more) guys. This is a bit harder, because it requires another well placed grenade throw. Same as in the 2nd scenario, if this scenario occurs, one of the enemies will once again run to the doors and try to throw a smoke grenade, then ?pass through? it. This time though, once he opens the door, try to throw another grenade (once again, aim just slightly to the left of the doorcase center), and then wait till it explodes. If everything goes OK, the blast will kill all the remaining guys inside (so far, it worked for me without any exception!), so as soon as you hear the detonation, RUN towards the door (using strafe key, if needed) before they can shut, and then collect the AK47s/grenades from the dead bodies if you want.

Once those 7 guys are dead and you?ve collected their AK47s, exit the room and destroy the nearby camera above the generator. Open/shot the gate to have a free access to the generator, then activate it. Now hit the nearer of the 2 switches located on the wall near the lift to raise the lift upwards. Don?t use the lift yet! You still have some enemies left to kill in this mission, so exit the building and approach the guys who guard the other side of the bridge (make a detour through the factory building, since it takes less time than to run around the whole complex).

CLEARING THE FACTORY BUILDING

Now proceed to the large, factory-like building, located in the southern part of the complex. Again, if you want to just kill the guys in the nearby barracks without wanting to collect their AK47s/grenades, leave them alive for now, and continue towards the factory building. In case you want their stuff, just do the same approach as mentioned in the 4th part of the walkthrough ? i.e. shoot the guards? feet (see this pic), and then finish them with one good grenade throw & your silencer as they come out. Just avoid throwing any grenade in the area behind the barracks, or the guys inside the factory building may hear the blast and come out to investigate.

Now it?s time to enter the factory building. First, you must destroy the camera located near the backdoors leading to the building, so shoot it with one precise shot from your silencer (lying in CRAWL mode, of course). Alternatively, you can also enter the building via the nearby conveyor ? just turn the switch from red to green (so the conveyor will be going in the right direction), then jump on it, and when inside, jump off its left side, else the camera inside may notice you (if you haven't destroyed it yet, of course).

There are only 2 enemies in the building ? both very easy to kill. The first one is located just around the corner, so just approach him from behind, and then break his neck/stab him. The 2nd guy is walking back and forth at the northern end of the building. He's again very easy to kill. Just hide hide behind this pylon supporting the platform above, and once the guy starts walking to the other side, quickly approach him in CROUCH-WALK mode (using strafe key, of course), and then break his neck/stab him. If you didn?t waste any time, you should have no problems to reach him before he starts moving back (use peaking to know when to leave your hiding spot).

GETTING THROUGH THE RIVER

Now ascend the ladder leading to the platform above you. Turn the switch located on the center pylon from red to green (so the large conveyor above can go in the right direction), and then ascend the second ladder. Now you must jump on the conveyor, which will take you through the river to another large, factory-like building. The trick is to jump from the left side of the platform you?re standing at, since it is closer to the conveyor (see this pic). Just make sure you have a decent run-up, or you may end up in that shredding machine under the conveyor ? and that?s a sure death. Also, make sure you have at least 2 grenades with you before jumping on that conveyor (if not, go back and grab the remaining ones from the shack)!

Once you?re on the conveyor, immediately switch to CRAWL mode and equip your MP5A3 submachine gun. Now it gets a bit tricky, because there?s a security camera located just above the place where the conveyor enters the opposite factory building. Since the moving of the conveyor makes your aim move as well, it?s a bit difficult to destroy it, but it?s possible. First, try to aim ABOVE camera a bit (don?t move with the mouse after that!), then quickly align yourself with the camera horizontally using the strafe keys. Now just wait till the conveyor takes you a bit further (which will align you with the camera vertically), and once the camera is in your crosshair, immediately fire a couple of shots (see this pic). If it doesn?t go down, try to align with the camera again, and then fire another 4-5 shots (I recommend you using the auto mode or burst, since the delay between each shot may be too long if you use single shot). If you find yourself having just a couple of shots left in your magazine and the camera is still active, quickly reload and try shooting again. If it still isn?t destroyed and you don?t have enough time to make another alignment (i.e. you?re too close to the camera), you may try sort of an ?emergency plan?.

Sometimes, when you try to RUN (using strafe keys, of course), the camera may beep a couple of times, but if you?re really quick, it won?t see you long enough to raise the alarm. The trick is to make the camera detect you at the latest possible moment. Usually I would wait till I?m in the closest possible distance to the camera while still being undetected (lying in CRAWL mode), and then I would make a dash through either the right or left side of the conveyor (this depends on the camera position, i.e. when it?s turned to the right, choose the left side of the conveyor, if it?s turned to the left, choose the right side). Anyway, it all depends highly on luck ? firstly because the camera moves to each side only slightly, and secondly because it stops moving only for a brief moment. Also, even if you?re lucky enough to enter the building without destroying the camera, it may occasionally spot you even if you?re well inside the building (see this pic). Alternatively, you may try to destroy this camera even before jumping on the conveyor (by running around the whole complex and then destroying it from safe range through the fence ? see this pic), but this is quite time consuming. Summed it up, this camera is perhaps the toughest thing from the whole level, but it really takes only a couple of tries to learn how to deal with it.

CLEARING THE 2ND FACTORY BUILDING

Once the conveyor takes you inside the building, the 2nd objective has been accomplished. Now turn left and slowly approach the 2 guys in the distance. For now, you?re going to kill only the standing guy, so carefully hide behind this nearby corner, and once the other guy starts walking away (use peaking to know the right moment), approach him in CROUCH-WALK mode, then break his neck. The patrolling guy won?t notice the corpse at all!

Now return back to where you came from and slowly approach the guy patrolling underneath the platform (where another 2 guards are standing). Just CRAWL all the way till you?re underneath that platform (if you use the crawl mode, the guys above won?t notice you at all!), and then wait till the patrolling guy walks to the right. He stops there for at least 10 seconds, giving you all the time to hide behind this pylon, and then approach him once he returns back. Just wait till he passes that pylon you?re hidden behind, and then follow him in CROUCH-WALK mode (using strafe keys) to break his neck. If you didn?t waste any time, you should have no problems to reach him before he starts walking back. The guys on the platform won?t notice the killing at all?

Now it?s time to kill the guys on the platform. Ascend the ladder leading to the platform (you can even use RUN mode), and once there, kill the guy standing near the ladder. Since he?s looking in the opposite direction, you can easily approach him from behind and then break his neck. Now you can do the same with the other guy as well, but unfortunately, the patrolling guy whom you previously left alive may occasionally notice his corpse. Therefore, leave the guy on the platform alive, and return to the place where you?ve killed the very first guy. Now you have basically 2 options how to kill that patrolling guy:

1. lie flat in CRAWL mode and shoot him with your silencer when the guy on the platform CAN?T see the killing (i.e. when the patrolling guy?s walking near that giant brown-red machine on the left)

2. hide behind that nearby corner where you were hiding before you?ve killed the very first guy, and then RUN (using the strafe key) towards the patrolling guy as he starts walking away and quickly break his neck. Since there?s a lot of noise in the factory building coming from the nearby machines, the enemies here (and also in the opposite factory building) hear your steps only if you?re really close to them, so if you?re quick, the guy won?t have a chance to react.

Anyway, the trick is to kill the patrolling guy when he?s walking near that large brown-red machine on the left, else the guy on the platform will notice the killing (in which case you?ll have to wait till he ?calms down?).

Now kill the remaining guy on the platform (from behind, of course). Once he's dead, you can destroy the 2 cameras located in the northwestern part of the building. As you?ll see, the one located in the northwestern corner of the building simply won?t raise an alarm even if it spots you ? a bug.

Once the cameras are down, there?s only one enemy (and one camera) left for you in the building. He?s standing in the southwestern part of the building, and he?s very easy to kill (just approach him from behind and then break his neck). Once he?s dead, destroy the nearby camera and exit the building through the large doors.

Well, i've decided to take some screenshots and you have to guess where i am ! Level and location within that level (roughly). Some are easy, some are not, and i think one or two are quite fiendish, even if i do say so myself ! 25 screen grabs from all the levels of IGI2, EXCEPT the Ancient Temple level, which crashes my machine if i try and play it ...

Also, i've blotted out any of the countdown timers which occur on timed levels, and turned off the weapons legend, and always switched to the knife before taking the shot. No clues ! :p

I expect some high scores from our knowledgable users !
THE 3 GUYS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRIDGE

The guards near the bridge entrance are both dead, which means you can now safely open the main gate. Once you?re on the bridge, check the position of the 4 guys patrolling the left side of the bridge. The lights enlightening the bridge can easily reveal your position, so just wait till these 4 guys are going away from you (or are too far to spot you), then jump off the right side of the bridge and swim on the shore. Now you?re going to kill the 3 guys located by the nearby shack. As you can see, 2 of them (one armed with AK47, the other with MAC10) stand still, staring at each other, whereas the 3rd guy patrols the area behind the shack. You?re going to kill those 2 standing guys first. Once again, there are various ways to kill them, but I would recommend mainly 2 approaches:

1st APPROACH: See those nearby crates? Carefully CRAWL to the right side of them to be as close to the AK47 guy as you can whilst his buddy won?t be having a look at you (see this pic). One quick headshot from your silencer ? and the AK47 guy is gone! The other guy will of course notice the killing, but he will only run away a couple of meters and then return back to his original position, staring directly at the corpse of his buddy as if nothing had happened (how clever!)? Now you can easily approach him from the back and twist his neck. Alternatively, you can even use the MP5A3 submachine gun to kill the AK47 guy (in order to save some ammo for your silenced pistol).

Anyway, if you don?t want to waste any time killing the 2nd guy, you can also try an alternative, a bit quicker approach. As you may noticed, once you kill the AK47 guy, the MAC-10 guy will always run away and stop at the one and the same place near the crates, crouching there for a while. Therefore, you can try the following: once the AK47 guy is dead, go ASAP around the crates (using the CROUCH-WALK mode together with strafe keys, of course), and then kill the MAC-10 guy from the back (see this pic). He will always be looking to the direction just enough for you to not be spotted (I?ve killed him literally million times using this alternative approach, but he didn?t spot me even once!), so if you didn?t waste any time, you should have no problems to kill him.

It?s worth of mentioning that this whole 1st approach has one, if minor drawback: once the MAC-10 guy notices his buddy dying, sometimes his scream will also alert the guy patrolling the area behind the shack (who?ll start running back and forth), so you?ll have to wait some time till he ?calms down?.

2nd APPROACH: It?s my favourite one, because it ensures you will kill both guys by twisting their necks ? and they won?t even notice each other?s death! It?s almost similar to that ?alternative? version of the 1st approach (i.e. you?ll kill the MAC-10 guy from behind by going around the crates), but this time, you won?t fire a single shot? Once again, it?s very easy, reliable and quick tactic! First, position yourself as close behind the right side of these crates as you can in order to not be seen by any of the guys (see this pic). Now start doing quick noisy steps in RUN mode (forwards and backwards, of course) till the guys scream out that characteristic shout of being alerted (by doing this, you?ll ensure that both guys will be looking at the same, opposite direction, when approaching them from the other side of the crates). Once the guys are alerted, immediately kill the MAC-10 guy by going around the crates and then twisting his neck, and once he's dead, hug ASAP this nearby corner between the crates. If you did it as described, the other guy will maybe hear his buddy?s corpse falling on the ground, but since you and the corpse will be well hidden behind the crates, he will only utter something and then return to his original guarding position as if nothing had happened. You can then easily kill him from behind, but be quick, because once he?s back at his original guarding position, it usually takes him only a couple of seconds to finally notice his buddy?s corpse. Therefore, I would usually kill him already when he?s returning to his original position. Just use the peaking to know when he starts walking back, and then approach him diagonally in CROUCH-WALK mode (using strafe key, of course), but don?t move too soon or he may spot you!

The remaining guy is very easy to kill. As you can see, he?s patrolling a relatively dark area between that large container and the fence. He always stops at each end of the container for at least 5 or so seconds, giving you all the time in the world to hide behind one of its corners, and then approach him in CROUCH-WALK mode either when he stops near it, or when he?s walking towards the other side of the container (see this pic).

CLEARING THE BARRACKS

Now the 3 guys located on the right side of the bridge are dead, so grab all the grenades from the nearby shack (the dead AK47 guy can occasionally give you one as well), and then RUN around the whole complex till you reach the main entrance. Open/shoot the gates and return back to the area near the barracks.

Now you have 2 options (it depends on your choice):

1. If you want to just kill the 4 guys inside - without wanting to collect the AK47s and also grenades which they occasionally leave, forget about it now, and just continue with the mission as written below.

2. If you do want to collect those AK47s/grenades, you may try the following:

Slowly approach the barracks' entrance in WALK mode, and stop just before that stony door-step (if you step on it, the guys inside will hear you). Unfortunately, the doors leading inside always shut, and you can?t open them either (unless you?re inside), so the trick is to lure the guys out with a couple of quick shots to their legs and then kill them with a grenade as they come out. Of course, you can just fire a couple of blind shots (or make a couple of noisy steps), and they?ll come out, but why not to do some damage if you can? Of course, you can?t see through the doors (which makes a good aiming that more difficult), but don?t worry. Just activate the thermal vision. As you can see, the 2 guys on the left stand in the same line, which means you can hurt them both (if aiming properly). The trick is to point the aim directly at their feet (if you point at their torso, chances are you may kill one of them, in which case the corpse + the weapon will remain inside).

Since you can?t see any crosshair when using thermal vision, accurate aiming may seem impossible at first, but don?t worry ? it is possible! How come? It?s easy! Just notice those mesh-like things when looking through the thermal vision. As you can see, they?re nicely aligned and form narrow, parallel lines in both horizontal and vertical direction. Since your view is only limited to a certain kind of ellipse (which is nicely centered), you can easily distinguish the center lines in both horizontal and vertical direction, and thus find the mesh which is located in the absolute center of your view (see this pic). So all you have to do is to point that center mesh at their feet, and you?re guaranteed of perfect aiming (provided you don?t move with your mouse afterwards, of course).

Now switch back to normal view and RUN mode. Fire a couple of shots with your MP5A3 submachine gun and immediately run backwards until you?re in a safe distance (roughly 40-50 m away). Equip the grenades, and wait in CROUCH-WALK mode till all the guys come out (in crouch-walk mode, you?ll be least visible whilst having an opportunity to throw grenades). Now try to kill them with one good grenade throw when they?re close to each other. It?s tough to kill them all with just one grenade, because they?re usually running to all directions, but it?s possible. Anyway, if someone of them remains alive, just finish him with your silencer (shoot to the torso and lie in CRAWL mode, of course). Obviously, the best opportunity for you to shoot them is when they're running straight towards you, since then they're moving sideways only slightly. Just don?t throw any grenade when some of the guys are still inside, or you may never collect their AK47s/grenades.

2 REMAINING GUARDS NEAR THE TRUCK

Now get as close as you can to have a clear look on both guys + the nearby camera (of course, be in CROUCH-WALK mode), whilst being in a safe distance (roughly 40 m, somewhere near those crates on the right). Your goal is to throw a grenade in a way that it destroys the camera + kills at least one (or both) of the guys. It?s not an easy task, because one of the guys (if not both) will always run away, so usually you?ll kill only one of them. Anyway, your top priority is to destroy the camera, since it can raise the alarm when it notices the corpse on the ground. Usually, when you throw the grenade, the guys will run somewhere near the truck, so you may wait till the camera starts turning to the opposite direction (i.e. to the north), and then try to throw the grenade as close between the 2 guys as possible. Of course, it takes some time till the grenade detonates, so use this brief moment to quickly destroy the camera with your silencer ? and that?s it! It?s just a matter of 2-3 tries till you learn how to deal with this situation?

BREAKING THE NECKS AGAIN

The guy patrolling near the barracks is dead, so you can now return via the same route to the place where you entered the main compound (that small pass through the fence). Don?t forget to destroy the camera mounted on the barracks if you haven?t done it yet (just walk slowly to not alert the guys inside). Once you?re back at the fence opening, continue towards the large containers. Once again, if you keep a close distance to the fence, the nearby guys around the truck won?t notice you at all (even when you?re running). Pass through that tight corridor between the containers and when you reach its end, STOP. Notice the camera mounted at the large water tank. You can either destroy it with your silencer, or later approach it from behind and then destroy it from underneath with your knife to save some ammo.

Now it?s time to kill the 2 guys standing near the shack. Once again, you can have a lot of fun with them! I would recommend 2 approaches:

1. Get carefully behind the shack (WALKING, then CROUCH-WALKING ? so they won?t hear you), and then kill one of the guys with a headshot from your silencer. It doesn't matter, which guy you choose. You?ll notice that no matter from which side of the shack you?ll approach, the NEARER of those guys will be always staring in the direction which is ENOUGH for you to NOT BE SPOTTED (assumed you?re in CRAWL mode, of course). Just make sure his buddy WON'T SEE you at the time of the shooting. Once the first guy is killed, the other will immediately start running for the alarm switch, but unfortunately for him, the nearest one is located at the entrance to the bridge ? and that?s too far for him to get there alive. Simply, this is a perfect opportunity for you to chase him and then? just see this picture:-)

2. Believe or not, you can even kill these guys in a way that they BOTH won?t have a chance to notice something! How come? The trick is to kill the first guy silently. Since both guys are literally staring at each other, the only way to achieve that is to draw the other guy?s attention away. If you try to go behind that shack loudly, both guys will of course hear it and will stare towards your direction, but they will calm down after a while. But if you pay a close attention, you?ll notice that the guy equipped with Makarov will STILL stare towards your direction. That means if you can draw his attention in a way that he?ll be looking in the same direction as the guy behind him, you?ll be then able to approach them from behind and then?you know what:-) There?s one place, which suits for this purpose absolutely perfectly ? and that?s one of those pylons supporting the nearby water tank. Simply, carefully hide behind this pylon to be assured the guys can?t see you, and then make a couple of steps in RUN mode, either forwards or backwards. The guys will of course hear you, so just switch to CRAWL mode and carefully get out of there. Make a few steps backwards when going away from that pylon (to be assured the guys won?t spot you), but actually, the area under the water tank is rather dark, so you should have no problems to get out of there. Now approach them from the other side of the shack, and then ? well, either knife or neck:-) I prefer the neck, as always:-) Just make sure you?re approaching them in CROUCH-WALK mode together with strafe keys, so the 2nd guy won?t have any time to react (see this picture).

THE GUY BEHIND THE TRUCK

Once both guys are killed, pay attention to the 3 guards by the nearby truck. You?re going to kill the patrolling guy first, so use the Map Computer to check his patrolling route. As you can see, it?s very short and simple. The trick is to kill him when he stops at the back of the truck. He stays there for about 10 seconds, giving you all the time in the world to reach him, so it?s very easy. The nearby crates will provide you an excellent cover, so get behind those crates first, and once he stops behind that truck, get close to him and then twist his neck. The 2 remaining guys won?t notice. You?re going to kill them later, so carefully go back to where you came from, and then move directly towards the entrance to the bridge, where another 2 guards are standing. If you keep a safe distance from the guys near the truck, you can go there even RUNNING (just be careful with those lights near the barracks, since it can sometimes reveal your position).

THE GUYS GUARDING THE ENTRANCE TO THE BRIDGE

There are 2 possible approaches to kill them: the 1st one assumes you shoot the camera first, whereas in the 2nd one, you?ll do it vice-versa.

1st APPROACH: Once you?re near the guys (that is around 25 m), use the CRAWL mode to get a bit closer, and then shot the nearby camera with your silencer. You should be positioned somewhere near these large containers, since there isn?t that much light for the nearby guys to spot you. Once you destroy that camera, both guys will of course notice it, but may react differently. There are 2 possible scenarios:

1. BOTH of them will run away a bit, then crouch and protect themselves, and after a couple of seconds, they will return to the gate as if nothing had happened. This is clearly the best possible scenario, since both of them will slightly change their original guarding positions after they return back to the gate, giving you a more than perfect chance to approach them from behind and then twist their necks. Simply, wait till they?re back, and then slowly approach them in CROUCH-WALK mode (just make sure you have them in line, so no one of them can spot you). Once you?re close enough to the nearer of those guys and the neck-breaking icon pops up, don?t waste any time. When he?s dead, move ASAP a couple of steps forward and do the same to his buddy. If you didn?t waste any time, he won?t have a chance to notice something (see this picture). Just be careful, because this 2nd guy is always positioned very close to the alarm switch, so make sure you don?t hit it when approaching. Simply, move just enough to make that neck-breaking icon pop up (you?ll easily learn how far you need to go).

2. ONE of the guys runs away, while the other remains STILL. This is a bit harder, because they won?t be in the same position as in the 1st scenario when they resume their guarding positions, so you won?t be able to kill the 1st guy from a close range. Occasionally, it works, but because the reaction time of the 2nd guy may vary, it?s not reliable. You have basically 2 options how to deal with this 2nd scenario: The better one is to kill the runaway guy when he stops, protecting himself (of course, shooting to his head with your silenced pistol, in CRAWL mode). If you kill him with one or maybe two quick shots, the other guy most probably won?t notice it (since he?s looking to the opposite direction), and it will be then easy for you to approach this 2nd guy from behind and then kill him by twisting his neck. But if you waste too much time killing the runaway guy, chances are the other one will notice it. It?s a question of quick acting. Just make sure you?re not close to those lights near the barracks when shooting, or you?ll be spotted. It?s also possible to kill those guys using your MP5A3 sub-machine gun ? just wait, till the runaway guy returns, then have both guys in line, get close to them, and then bang! If you hold your fire for a second or two, both of them will be dead without even noticing you. I must say, though, that this approach doesn?t always work, since often you may be spotted when trying to get closer ? even when you?re crawling.

2nd APPROACH: CRAWL under those lights enlightening the entrance to the barracks, and then get to the closest possible distance to the guys as you can get WITHOUT being seen by the camera (see this picture). The guys won?t spot you at all, so just wait till the camera is turned completely to the right, and then quickly kill the guy NEARER the alarm switch (by headshot from your silencer). DON?T move with your mouse after this shot! Just wait till the other guy stops at the alarm switch, and (if you didn?t move your mouse) you should have your aim pointed exactly at the center of his head, so just fire another shot, and he?s dead. Then quickly destroy the camera, and that?s it! If you didn?t waste any time killing those 2 guys, the camera won?t beep even once!

Finally, you may also try to kill those guys from this same place using your MP5A3 sub-machine gun. The other guy will of course run for the alarm switch, but he won?t spot you, and the guys inside barracks won?t hear the shooting at all!

THE 3 GUYS GUARDING THE MAIN ENTRANCE

Now you?re going to kill the 3 guys guarding the main gate ? once again an easy task. Switch back to CROUCH-WALK (so you won?t be seen), and slowly approach them. The area near the warehouse is maybe enlightened a bit, but there?s no way they can spot you (especially when you?re approaching them in crouch-walk mode). You may also try to approach them in WALK mode a bit, then switch to CROUCH-WALK and finally to the CRAWL, respectively, and still they won?t spot you. As you?ve already noticed, 2 of those guys stand still near the main entrance, whilst the 3rd one is patrolling it (stopping at both sides of the entrance). You?re going to kill this patrolling guy first. Simply, wait till he walks towards the right side of the gate, and just a second or two after he starts walking TOWARDS THE FENCE (standing roughly 20 m away from him), start approaching him diagonally, using the CRAWL mode. He always stops near the fence for about 20 seconds, staring to the southeast (enough for you to not be spotted). You?ll have all the time in the world to get close to him ? even crawling, without using strafe keys. Just keep the diagonal approach, so he won?t spot you. Don?t worry about the 2 remaining guys ? if you?re crawling, they won?t notice you at all (unless you get really close to the enlightened area surrounding the main entrance). Once you?re close enough to the guy, simply break his neck ? and he?s gone! The 2 remaining guys won?t notice his death at all! It?s very easy to master this approach, firstly because the area between the main gate and the warehouse is dark enough for you to not be seen, and secondly because the patrolling guy stops near the fence for about 20 seconds, giving you more than enough time to reach him.

So once that patrolling guy?s dead, it?s time to kill his 2 comrades. As you can see, they?re standing virtually in one line, surrounded by some concrete-like panels. Remain in CRAWL mode and position yourself behind the leftmost of those concrete panels (so you will be as close to the guys as it gets WITHOUT being seen), and then pay attention to your visibility meter. As you can see, when you?re hugged to that concrete panel, the surrounding lights also make you more visible. Try to get away from that panel (roughly 3-4 m away), and you?ll notice your visibility dropping a bit. This will help you to learn the shortest possible distance you can keep from the FURTHER of those guys WITHOUT BEING SPOOTED, WHILST HAVING A CLEAR LOOK ON HIM (you?re going to kill this guy first, since he?s closer to the alarm switch). Now notice that light pole between the concrete panels. As you can see, there?s a small space between this pole and the concrete panel you?re hidden behind. You?re going to kill that further guy through this small opening, so strafe just enough to have a clear view on the guy, but DON?T go any further or his buddy may spot you! If you keep the aforementioned safe distance, the further guy won?t spot you at all. Learning this distance is very easy ? just pay attention to your visibility meter.

Now check the guy patrolling that long alley between the fence and the large container, but DON?T USE THE MAP COMPUTER, else the guy you?re about to kill will spot you (for some unknown reason). Just try the thermal vision or binoculars. You must kill these 2 remaining guys near the entrance WHILE this patrolling guy is away, walking towards the far corner of the fence (else he will hear the shouts and go investigate). So once he?s far enough from you, select the silenced pistol and prepare for some quick action. You have 2 options how to kill those 2 remaining guys near the entrance. The 1st one is the obvious ? shoot the furthest guy to the head, then do the same with the remaining one when he stops at the alarm switch (either by shooting him to the head, or by firing multiple shots to his upper body). I must say I don?t prefer this 1st option for 3 obvious reasons: 1. you have to strafe a bit to the right in order to actually see the guy when he stops near that alarm switch, 2. pointing to his head may cost you precious time, 3. shooting to his upper body may not be quick enough to prevent him hitting that alarm switch.

Therefore, I?ve ?invented? another, more reliable (and funnier) option. How it works? Simply, shoot the further guy to the head, and then RUN ASAP (USING THE STRAFE KEYS, of course) to the other guy to break his neck while he?s going for the alarm switch! It?s easy and always reliable! The guy won?t spot you at all, since he?s reacting literally in milliseconds (that is, once he sees his buddy falling on the ground, his ONE AND ONLY INTENTION will be to go for the alarm). Just make sure you don?t have the WALK mode toggled prior to the shooting, else you?ll have to switch back to the run mode, which may cost you precious time. Also, make sure you're pointing exactly to the center of the head when killing the 1st guy, since this shot is CRITICAL. If you miss, the guys will either spot you or their dead buddy on the ground. Anyway, if you react ASAP, you should have no problems reaching the 2nd guy (that?s why I?ve told you to keep that shortest possible distance!). This 2nd option has only one minor drawback: sometimes, if you get really close to the guy, you may hit the alarm switch instead of breaking the guy?s neck, though it doesn?t exactly relate to this particular case. Anyway, a couple of tries will solve this problem. Remember that the guy will always stop when trying to push that alarm switch, so you can easily learn his final position and then keep the appropriate distance from him when going for the kill. But as I?ve already said, this problem doesn?t exactly relate to this particular case, because the guy here is always standing a bit to the left of the alarm switch when trying to push it. Just be quick, and you should have no problems - see here.

You can also try an alternative option by killing these 2 guys with your MP5A3 sub-machine gun (either by firing selectively to their heads or shredding them with auto-fire), but I?m not quite sure whether the guy patrolling the nearby fence may notice it or not. Anyway, I always prefer the neck-breaking version ? there?s no doubt:-)

THE PATROLLING GUYS

Now you're going to kill the 2 guys patrolling nearby. Keep your focus on the guy patrolling in that tight alley between the large container and the fence first. He?s very easy to kill. Just position yourself hugged to the container (behind its edge, so you won?t be spotted), and then lean to the right to check the guy?s position. Once he starts moving away from you, start approaching him (CROUNCH-WALKING, of course), and then it's once again either neck or knife:-) You may even try to hold that action key to kill him sooner, but don?t forget to use the STRAFE KEYS, or you?ll never reach him. This guy can be easily killed also by approaching from the other side of the container (either when he?s going to the left or to the right). It?s up to you, which way you choose. The one I mentioned first is the quickest I guess. Just stay hidden behind the edge of the container (so the guy won?t spot you) and use the leaning or Map Computer to check the guy?s position.

When he?s dead, approach the guy who?s patrolling the nearby barracks ? and do the same to him. It?s once again easy, because you can hide behind those large containers and then easily approach him when he starts moving AWAY from you (once again use STRAFE KEYS, or you won?t be able to reach him in time). When you?re trying to kill a patrolling enemy from a very close range (I mean either by stabbing or breaking his neck), it?s always important to have a nearby cover, where the enemy CAN?T SEE you and where you can start your approach from. The nearer this place is to the enemy, the better for you. Just check the patrolling route of this guy, and you?ll soon know where to find that one safe hiding (see here). The key is to kill him once he starts moving TOWARDS THE FENCE, because only then you'll have enough time to reach him (if you won?t waste any time, that is).

OK, here?s my "ultimate" walkthrough for the 1st mission ? the Infiltration. Bear in mind, that most of my walkthroughs will usually have 3 main goals ? to KILL EVERY SINGLE ENEMY in the particular mission (and also to destroy the other things which may potentially be dangerous to you ? that is cameras or APCS), then TO FINISH IT WITH 100 % HEALTH, and all this WITHOUT BEING SPOTTED EVEN ONCE (if that?s possible). This, of course, has a very negative impact on the achieved time, but honestly, I don?t mind. My main goal was to make a walkthrough concentrated on killing everyone and everything, putting emphasis on both the stealth and reproducibility of the given parts. That means I won?t necessarily use the stealth approach, but WHENEVER it?s possible (and most importantly, reproducible), I will. Note: All this, of course, in Hard difficulty setting!

Enough words, let?s start with the 1st mission! After hearing the initial mission instructions from a guy who does look like a George Clooney:-), you finally land with your parachute next to the enemy compound. This 1st mission, in my opinion, is rather boring and tedious, since there are lots of enemies spread throughout the map (and it requires a lot of patience and time to kill them all!), but on the other hand, the level has a very nice ?evening atmosphere?, and you can also practice many things which you?ll be doing in the next missions.

THE FIRST KILL

Once the level starts, head immediately to the warehouse just in front of you. Picklock the gate (I always prefer to picklock over the shooting, since it is quieter + saves the ammo), while simultaneously paying attention to the camera above the fence. Now you have 2 options: The 1st one is to picklock the backdoors, go inside the warehouse, and kill the guy standing there between the large container and the wall. Since you?ll be facing his back when entering the warehouse, you won?t have any problems to get close to him (CROUCH-WALKING) and then break his neck. It?s worth of mentioning that the fastest you can get close to the enemy in IGI 2 WITHOUT DOING TOO MUCH NOISE is by using the crouch-walk mode, so use this to your advantage! Also, whenever you?re in a hurry, try to move holding one of the STRAFE KEYS ? you?ll be faster! This can come pretty handy especially when you?re trying to break the neck / stab a patrolling guard, since in most of the cases, the guard will be slower than you.

Anyway, back to the walkthrough. The 2nd option is to destroy the nearby camera, which will trigger the aforementioned guy to go out and investigate. If you want to try this 2nd option, always approach the camera hugged to the fence (so you can minimize the possibility of being detected). When you?re just underneath the camera, destroy it with a couple of quick stabs while jumping (I always prefer to use knife, if that?s possible), and then quickly position yourself hugged to the corner between the outside wall of the warehouse and the left side of the stairs leading to the backdoor, standing in CROUCH-WALK mode. The guy inside will hear the camera crashing and soon go out of the warehouse to investigate. However, he will always stop on the stairs ? totally unaware of you. This is a perfect chance for you to kill him, so once he stops on these stairs, just jump on the top of it and (while jumping) turn yourself on the guy?s back ? and you know the rest. Simply, break his neck, and that?s it! He?ll maybe hear you jumping on the stairs, but if you?re quick enough, he won?t be even able to finish what he was about to say:-) Here's the proof! Really, it only takes 2-3 times till you get used to do it without any problems. Alternatively, you can also kill this guy with a headshot from your silenced pistol. Since he will stand still (totally unaware of you), you'll have all the time in the world to point exactly at his head and then kill him (of course, you should have your pistol equipped already before the guy comes out of the warehouse, or he will hear you switching the weapons). Note: once you picklock the gate, always switch to the WALK mode, otherwise the guy inside will hear your steps.

CLEARING THE WAREHOUSE

So once you?ve killed this first guy (don?t forget to destroy the camera outside if you tried the 1st option), it?s time to kill the remaining 2 guys in the warehouse. Go through that small alley between the large container and the warehouse wall (where the 1st guy was standing) and when you?re at its end, lean to see which direction the guy on the catwalk is moving to. If he?s going to the left, just wait a couple of seconds and he?ll soon walk back to the right, being hidden behind the containers. He stays there for about 10 seconds, which is more than enough time for you to move to the crates on your right (you can even use WALK mode, without being heard). Or you can simply CRAWL ? and he won?t notice you at all.

Once you?re by the crates, switch to CROUCH-WALK mode, and use the crates to jump at the top of the large container (the one to the left), then IMMEDIATELY switch to CRAWL mode. The guy on the catwalk may occasionally notice you, but if you didn?t wasted any time switching to the crawl mode, he will only remain staring towards your direction (that is you won?t be spotted), and then start patrolling again after a while. But if you?re really quick, he won?t have chance to even spot something. Now select your silenced pistol and wait till the guy stops at the right side of the catwalk. You should have plenty of time to point exactly at the center of his head, but don?t try to get close for better aim, or the lights above will reveal your position and you?ll be spotted. If everything goes as planned, one shot must be enough to kill this guy. In case you miss (or if it?s not enough to kill him), you may try a quick 2nd shot, which will usually be enough to kill him WITHOUT alerting the guy underneath the catwalk. If he?s alerted (may occasionally happen), better restart the level and try again. Don?t worry ? these are only the first 3 enemies in the very first level, so it?s not so tough to swallow:-) Anyway, if you aim appropriately, one shot is usually enough. Note: sometimes, the guy underneath the catwalk will notice the killing, even if you kill his buddy above him with one single shot. I've noticed that this situation occurs ONLY if the guy on the catwalk makes a scream during the dying, but this is very rare. Usually, he will go down without a beep:-)

Now the guy on the catwalk is dead, it?s time to kill his buddy below him. This guy is originally staring towards your direction, but since he would hear the body of his buddy falling on the catwalk, he will turn his attention on the catwalk. He will simply stare above him like an idiot (WITHOUT being alerted), so use this to get close to him, and then break his neck! Simply, once the guy on the catwalk is dead, switch immediately to the CROUCH-WALK mode and move through the top of the container towards the guy?s direction (holding the strafe key for quicker movement). When you?re nearing the end of the container, fall off its left side (you won?t get injured), then quickly move around the crates at the end of the container and break the guy?s neck. It?s always easy and reproducible! You can even land on the crates, but don?t go too close to the guy or he will hear you falling on the ground. Also, it?s even possible to start approaching this guy by using the WALK mode, but to be honest, you won?t even need it (assumed you?re quick enough, of course).

THE WAREHOUSE IS CLEAN

Time to get out of the warehouse. Switch to RUN mode and exit through the door underneath the catwalk. When outside, proceed along the fence till you reach a small pass. Once you go through it, George Clooney (a.k.a. your mission director) will tell you that the first objective has been successfully accomplished. Encouraged by this fabulous news, turn right and continue diagonally towards the entrance to the next area. Since the area along the fence is rather dark, the guys standing near the truck won?t notice you at all, so you can run there without any worries. On the other hand, the place where you're currently standing is well lit, but still, the guys at the truck won?t notice you at all ? even when running. Instead, pay attention to the guy patrolling the nearby barracks when entering this next area, as he can sometimes spot you (but that?s very rare).

Once you?re past the entrance, turn to the right and run around the crates from the inner side (so the guy patrolling the barracks won?t have even slightest chance of spotting you). You may also try to destroy the nearby camera. In that case, just wait till that guy once again walks behind the barracks, and then quickly destroy it with a couple of quick stabs (use the WALK mode, so the guys inside the barracks won?t hear you). Destroying this camera is very easy, since it is turning only to the right (and therefore won?t spot you during your approach). The guys inside won't hear the crashing at all (a bit weird), so just wait till the nearby guy?s once again behind the barracks, and quickly move back to where you came from.

The 2nd part of the walkthrough will follow soon!

It took me the longest time to figure this one out! The trick is to draw the guys off the bridge and onto the hill. Then, take these guys out BEFORE you grab the detonators. You have to beat the clock, never be seen, and meet the accuracy requirement.

The clock starts at 15:00. You have to blow the bridge before 7:00. That means you have 8 minutes to do everything. Here's how you do it.

When the mission starts, switch to knife and run straight and a bit left. Go over the hill and down to the driveway. Head directly for the nearby fence corner where the trucks are parked. There is a tree there and bushes. Dive into the bushes and get out your pistol.

Time approx. 14:10

You are first going take out 4 guards patrolling the lot. When bullets start flying these guys are going to come your way from either around the back of the trucks or along the fence in front of the trucks. Make sure that the tree doesn't block you from aiming at the guy who might come down the fence in front of the trucks. Make sure the bush doesn't block your view.

As you lay there for a second, you'll see a guy patrolling off in the center of the lot behind the trucks diagonally in front of you. Put two shots into him. If you didn't kill him then he comes running. Turn and try to put one round into the guy patrolling way off to your left in front of the garage. You'll probably miss but you need him to come running too. Get ready! There are 4 guys heading your way and that bush doesn't provide much cover!

Quickly check your map computer and see where everybody is. As guards come from behind the trucks, put two square into their chest BEFORE they reach the fence. Otherwise they'll see you laying right there. As guards come along the fence in front of the trucks, turn and drill them BEFORE they reach the corner else they'll see you too. It's a bit nerve racking because you don't know which direction they're coming from and you have to drill them fast before they reach the fence. Be calm. After some practice, you can take all of these guys out quickly.

Now get up and run to the hole in the fence while reloading your pistol. Switch to your knife. Dive through the hole. Run to the button. Don't run along the wall to the button. Run near the truck then walk the last bit up to the button. Use the button. The fence opens.

Time approx.13:10

When the gate opens, step inside and lay flat. Crawl over to the bush by the alarm. This bush is amazing! You can hide in this little bush and blast away with your AR-15 and nobody sees you! Once in the bush, switch to the AR-15 and drill the guy facing you standing in front of the truck beneath the camera. The alarm sounds. Get ready. All hell is going to break loose!

Use short bursts. Don't blast blindly because you'll ruin your accuracy. As each guard approaches, give them a short burst into their chest. One by one they go down. Also, there's a guy who comes running out the door. Turn and blast him in the back. It all happens fast! Pay attention because if a guard gets behind the bush he'll sees you and opens fire!

All the noise makes the guys on the bridge come up the hill to investigate. They all gather on the other side of the wall facing the street.

Use your infrared to quickly check if you've dropped everybody in the yard.

Time approx. 11:20

Get up and search the bodies for grenades. Usually I find one. If you don't then don't worry about it. Toss the grenade at the fuel barrels alongside the wall between the two shipping containers. Or, you can save the grenade and toss it at the fuel barrels when you're ready to unlock the rear-gate. Either way, the explosion helps draw them up the hill to that side of the compound wall.

There is one guy standing at the far right corner of the building. There are a couple of ways to take this guy out. One is to lay down behind the truck and aim underneath the truck and put a short burst into his chest. This is a risky shot because if you miss then he sees you! Or, you can run to the sniper rifle leaning up against the other truck. Grab it and lay flat. Aim and fire! Don't forget to pickup your AR-15.

After this guy goes down, put on your infrared and run to the wall beneath the guy on the inside catwalk. He hears you and stops. Quickly switch to your AR-15 and blast him through the wall. You'll hear him go down. If you don't hear him go down then check to see where he's at. If he's still standing, adjust your aim and take this guy out!

Reload and head for the door underneath the camera. Open the door and quickly step inside and dive to your right. The two guards almost never see me when I step inside.

One guard runs to a corner of the inside fence and stops. Drop him! This causes the second guy to run around crazy. This guy doesn't stop and you must blast him while he is running around. This guy is the toughest guy to drop in the whole mission. If you miss him then he turns and fires! If you spray too many bullets then your accuracy goes down. You can switch to your silenced pistol and use that instead. Take this guy out! Get up and switch to your knife and run to the gate. Open the gate.

Time approx. 10:45

Grab the explosives and exit the backdoor. Don't worry about alarms going off. Run around to the back gate of the compound. Quickly check your map computer to see if there are guards on the other side of the wall near your position. They should be on the other side of the wall facing the street. Occasionally, you'll find a couple of guys back by that gate. If there are guys back there, quietly follow them to the corner. As they move, you move. If a guy stops, quietly pluck him in the head.

If there is nobody back there, run along the hill to the bush on the edge of the hill where you can face directly down the wall where all the guards are. Be careful. There are guards all on the other side of that wall. Dive to the ground and crawl the last bit to the bush.

Time approx. 10:15

Once in the bush, get out the AR-15. Grenade launcher time! Launch grenades into the crowd. You want to take out as many of these guys as possible. If a bunch of guards are all standing together, launch one straight into the crowd! Kaboom!

By the way, taking guys out with grenades increase your accuracy.

Immediately switch to your pistol and take out anybody still standing. Don't start firing blindly. You still have accuracy to keep in mind. Pluck one and when they turn and come your way, put two into their chest. Sometimes I manage to kill all of the guys with the grenades but mostly I have to pluck the guys still standing. Take out everybody on that hill!

Now, check your map computer to see if you've gotten everybody. If you got everybody (except for the guys by the detonators) then head for the detonators. If not, then be patient. Usually there are 2 or 3 guys from the bridge who are still on the bottom of the hill but are thinking about coming up the hill now. Wait for these guys to get to the top of the hill in front of you then drop them one at a time. Or, you can risk sliding down the hill and trying to get the detonators and onto the bridge without them seeing you. But then they see you when you try to leave the bridge after setting the explosives.

Time approx. 9:20

Now, turn and slide down the hill right behind you heading straight for the detonators. Crawl to the detonators. Grab the detonators. There is a guy patrolling back and forth on the other side of the truck behind the detonators. You can take this guy out when he stops with one into his head. Otherwise, you can leave him alone but he might see you when you run alongside the road to the bridge. Usually he doesn't. If you've got time then take him out. It's a risky shot because if you miss he makes a big stink and the guys in the nests turn and blast you. Your choice.

Either way, once you've gotten the detonators, crawl back behind the truck. Crouch-walk behind the truck if you need to move and reload your silenced pistol. Crawl into the bush in front of the truck by the bottom of the hill. Get into position so you can pop the nearest guy in the machine gun nest in the side of the head. He goes down quietly. This causes the guy in the other far nest to turn. Sometimes he turns and crouches. Take solid aim at his head and pop him. Tough shot but you can do it!

Get up and toss your AR-15 and run straight towards the road and when you reach the side of the road, turn and run alongside the road straight to the catwalk on the near side of the bridge.

Time approx. 8:30-9:00

Set the explosives on one side of the bridge. Cross the road at the rear of the bridge and set the explosives on the far side of the bridge. Then, run off the bridge. Head diagonally to your left straight up the hill. I usually head all the way up to a nice flat-spot on the very top of that hill with a beautiful view so I can survey all the bodies I left behind with my infrared goggles. And I get to watch the bridge blow. Mission accomplished!

Time approx: 7:00-7:30

Eventually I completed this mission with 7:33 on the clock, never seen, 100% health and 100% accuracy. Finally got my David Jones rating! Hooray!

Tough mission! Don't give up!

Good luck,
Previously I got a reply to my query regarding "not being able to complete start up of Ancient Temple". I was advised that maybe the previous mission was corupted and therefore the Ancient Temple would not load. Somewhere on my hard drive is the listing of all my games. I cannot find them. Does anyone know how they would be filed and how I can access them. I suspect that if I can find the mission prior to the Ancient Temple, then maybe I can delete that file which may be corupted. The IGI2 CD is OK. I bought another game disk and the same problem came up, so it must be with the saved games. I really don't want to erase all the missions and start over!!!!

Please help.
My computer works fine otherwise and all the missions up to this point work fine. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I don't want to start over.
First of all, hello to everybody as this is my first day as a member here and my first post. I am intrigued vastly of IGI's concept and design. IGI-1 was included on CD as part of my software package but didn't realize it until after 3 years after I bought the computer. Now I'm hooked. It took 3 weeks of playing everyday on easy mode to get through all the levels, and I still haven't done the same on "hard" mode. But I couldn't wait any longer so I purchased IGI-2 last month. I am currently in the 10th level in "easy" mode and I have noticed that I have encountered and picked up a medical syringe only once so far. Very unlike IGI-1. Am I missing something here or is this the way its supposed to be? Please help. Thanks

Here are my reviews, stories and weird stuff of the levels of IGI1, which i thought i'd share with you, still one of the best games i've ever played, and still play ! Please feel free to comment or add your own obervations to this classic game.

Level 1 - Trainyard
A nice simple level to start off with. Nice graphics and layout, although my PC has a bit of trouble with textures as its an old G/Card. One of the few levels where Jones can't go anywhere he wants - the entire level is played within a fenced area. I've recently discovered you can get outside of the fence, but more of that later. I also recently worked out a way of completing this level in under 2 mins, here's how - if you get on to the roof of the start building then jump down on to the ground at the front via the low roof and make your way to the water tower on the left with the sniper guy (one of the guards comes out if you make too much noise on the roof, so be wary) - climb the tower, and go round to the right and take out the sniper guy. Now switch to the MP5 suppressed machine gun (my fave weapon ever !) and zoom in on any one of guards patrolling in the areas opposite the long building in front of you - and shoot your chosen guy, BUT NOT TO KILL - hit him in the leg or something. If you can do this, the guy will run to the gate you can't open from the outside and open it for you - take him out with the sniper rifle as he stands motionless while the gate opens. Also take out the guard in the other tower to the right, the camera below him (on the tower) and the guard in the sentry building. You can now get down from the tower and turn left through the newly opened gate and run alongside the long building and cut out the back part of the level. You will have to take out the guards patrolling (one patrols along the length of the building and you can't see him from the water tower) - if you want you can take them out first from the Water Tower (except the guard you can't see), but make sure you kill them away from the cameras. Go through the gate at the end and you can reach the truck in double quick time (the guards in the last cabin sometimes see you but you should be at the truck by then)

Notes: In case you don't know, there is a Minimi and ammo in the long building, at the back, behind a crate, although its in a bit of a pointless place as regards to the level. Also, at the start of the level, on the roof of the first building, if you go to the opposite wall, near the ladder which goes down inside, you'll see, halfway along, the fence meets the building wall. A bit further along the fence is a junction, with some crates on the outside. By jumping off the roof onto this fence, you can jump along (don't try and walk / run or you'll fall off) and then once past the junction, jump a bit to your left and you are outside the fence ! Here is a pic from outside. You can only get back in by climbing the crates. You can explore, and this leads me to an oddity, when playing the level previously, i noticed the sound of a helicopter in the top right area of the level (as you look at the map). If you're outside, follow the railtrack up the hill and round to the left and at the end (its a long walk !) is a blanked off tunnel, and the noise of the helicoper is really loud ! But i've never been able to find it !

Level 2 - SAM Base
A nice level again, with a nice objective of mining the SAM batteries. You start in a poxy place - as soon as you break cover, the guy in the tower behind you (and sometimes the guy patrolling below) start taking pot shots at you - rather disconcerting ! Only two weeks ago, i discovered something on this level i'd missed before - a medikit. Its in one of the cabins in the start area (the one NOT containing the M16), in the corner near a table, but NOT on the table, on the floor - you have to look for it. Could'nt believe it when i saw it ! Have you found it ? The guards blend in well with the surroundings on this level; as you approach the third SAM battery, you have to watch out for them. Good job the binoculars show them up ! The guys with the Minimi's seem never to hit me - they seem to fire into the wall of the pill box they are standing in. Once again, the suppressed MP5 is a great weapon to use here with its zoom - head shots all the way. Good level.

Level 3 - Military Airbase
A very large open level, with a murky/misty and wet setting. Nice atmosphere. You start a bit too far IMO from your first objective - the dome on the hill is not necessary to visit to complete the level. I always find the sniper guy on the water tower a bastard as you approach the entrance gate in the building complex to the east - make sure he's on the farside when you try and enter. Quite a convoluted level in retrospect - you need to be on your toes with the sniper guys patrolling the building close to the water tower as well. Lots of places to explore, but not much in them. Its possible in certain places to use the zoom on the sniper rifle whilst in the east building complex and zoom in on the Control Tower in the distance and just make out the head of the guy in the tower thru the window - and shoot him ! Saves time ! Nice ending to this level too - Anya and David's banter and the Fighter Aircraft sequence are pretty cool in my book. They should never have changed David's voice for IGI 2 either.

Notes: Another ghostly helicopter ! If you go north from your start position, and west, past the hangar and the control tower, and into the wilderness, there is another helicopter noise ! I believe its the chopper that dropped you which parks itself inside the mountains somehow, but i'm not sure.

Level 4 - GOD
Another different idea for a level, if a bit dull - nice graphics again. The guy in the window with the Minimi is a bit handy ! I've explored most of the houses i think, but not found anything. And i've tried getting into that buliding complex where the action takes place but no joy - even alerting the guards and trying to get them to open the gate proved fruitless. There are many vantage points to choose from, but the obvious one is the water tower midway down. I've been caught out by those guards who sneak up on you a few times when you use the watertower - bastards !

Level 5 - Radar Base
An excellent level, with lovely scenic views. Well laid out in two main areas. Its a level i've played a few times. Can be quite tricky too at first. I remember having trouble the first time i played it in not realising i was supposed to pick up the access card from the desk ! You can also approach the first part of this level from the back as well - and climb over the dividing fence to get inside the inner bit via the gate at the end. The guards in the back buildings who are stationary and stay inside can be a handful to pick off. I like to place trip mines in the first building near the door and in the first room, then go back outside to the dividing wall between the two buildings and fire my Ak47 - this alerts a couple of the guards who run through and get themselves killed on my trip mines.
The second part is relatively easy, especially when using the M16 and its grenades. Could have done with a few more guards. I like placing the trip mine on the building wall so the patrolling guard detonates it - although it baffles me, as in IGI2, why a guard ignores trip mines and walks right up to them whilst he will try and avoid grenades !

Love the Desert Eagle ! Much more kick than the Glock - wish this was standard issue !

Notes: This has always struck me as odd - the double Uzi. Why do you have to pick up two together in special caches ? On this level for instance, if the alarm goes off, some of the guards who appear carry Uzi's - and yet if you pick one up, then another, you don't get double UZI's ... ! Also, in relation to the guards, the room they come from (first building, ground floor, near the lift) is inaccessible to you for some reason (its a common layout and on other levels, the door is openable). Anyway, if you want to get inside you can - simply set off the alarm then pick off one of the guards who comes out (outside somewhere), but closeby the door. Then run inside by the door. Each guard respawns once, so you have four chances to do this - when the respawned guard opens the door, you can get inside (you can open the door from the inside) ... but its empty anyway! :(

TBC !

I want this thread to be like an in depth a debate for the IGI 2 and IGI 1 hardcore fans out there, so please post your opinions.

First of all, I'll try to give to give my insights on the IGI 2 Covert Strike missions from Ukraine, Lybia, the Spratley Islands, China and i'll also try to mention the aspects that worked IMO and the and the aspects that [again imo] didn't really worked for the game. So here we go:

PART 1

1) Infiltration - This is a perfect opener. Great cold night atmosphere, great layout with a very cool enemy compound. It's a very basic mission, with a simple infiltration, it's easy to avoid detection. Overall very good introduction to the game

2) Deep In The Mines - Again, amazing atmosphere (here the deep underground mine drilling sounds worth every penny imo). This mission rules because you learn how incredibly sensitive the enemies can be compared to the first game (where they were really dumb sometimes). Given the fact that you can finish the mission with only one certain victim that mission rules in my book. And the action on the full-speed driving trains in the long tunnel just fucking slays.

3) The Weather Station - The only "cold snowy russian winter" type of mission from IGI 2. Needless to say i was a huge fan of the winter missions from IGI 1 and this new one is great too. The enviroment and the landscapes are truly fantastic, great music too and wind sounds and heavy snowfall towards the end of the mission..etc. The mission it's pretty linear in itself and can be resolved with massive shootouts but i still like it. alot.

4) Bridge Across The Dnestr - IMO this is where the developers totally fucked up. This mission is really poorly designed (the graphics rule as always but that's another thing), the plot is illogical and the violence required is pointless and over-the-top = You need to kill at least 10-15 people to finish this mission. What sucks is how there's like only one entry and one exit from the main compound [unless you wanna get out through the back where you entered], one entry and one exit from the main building with the explosives and the ridiculous idea that you have to steal the detonator that's on a box that's literally surrounded with like 6-10 enemies just doesn't make sense to me.. Then you go to plant the four bombs and at the other end of the bridge there are some snipers who never see you! really pointless stupid mission. Could've been done alot better. Also there is no "avoiding camera suspense" which sucks.

5) Ambush - This is where you have to do massive amounts of shooting & killing. If you finished the previous mission with enough amunition then it's not gonna be a problem. The enemy soldiers are just waiting near the few trucks and there's also a ridiculously stupid APC. I took 2 Dragunov rifles from the idiot snipers across the bridge so...no problem.

Another major flaw is that enemy reinforcements arrive only after you complete the final objective and run to the extraction point so they're totally pointless. I think you should've had a time limit after in this mission in other words, you should've been forced to act out real quick before the reinforcement helicopters would land and kill you.

6) Production Facility - Classic IGI man!! truly classic. I've spend so much time trying to figure out wich enemyies should i snipe first and how to aproach things..it had a real blast. This is the mission that reminds me of the first IGI the most. And the ending cut-scene were Quest and White betray you was really cool. I never like the fuckers in the first place. Very good plot IMO.

7) Border Crossing - nice on-the-run type of mission with a lot of otherwise necessary crouching, sneaking and hiding and this is where we go to another major flaw of the game: It's very cool that you can hid in a bush but it's really unexplainable how several times i managed to slaughter like over 20 enemy soldiers that were running around and even through the same bush i was hiding in!! That shit was unreal. I was firing my AK47 at guys that were 1-2 meters away and nobody could see me just because i was in a fucking bush..come on! Overall the mission has absolutely nothing on the first classic Border Crossing from IGI 1.

well that's it for now. I'll post the second and third parts later..

You guys heard anything relevant about a possible third IGI game? It would be really great. The AI improvements were massive in the second one but the missions weren't that well constructed, the atmosphere was really great though, especially the missions in Lybia which reminded me of Rambo III or Commando or something..really excellent stuff. IGI 3 should be the ultimate supreme stealth commando action experience.

What improvements would you guys like to see in IGI 3? I would like harder missions [the succes should depend on a very carefuly designed and perfectly executed plan but still with a lot of kickass action oportunities :)], realistic intelligent and skilfull opponents and of course more cold russian winter missions!!!!

It took me quite awhile to figure this mission out and complete it in under 9:30. The trick to this mission is getting the guards on patrol in the area of stacked containers to leave the area. This is what you do but timing is crucial.

When the mission starts, immediately switch to your silenced pistol and take a few quick steps in the direction of the nearby guard then dive to the ground. He stops and turns. Drill him clean through the head. Now, get up and RUN as fast as you can toward the opening of the area leading into the stacked containers. As you run, you'll see a guard turning and heading back up the patrol in the center area with all the containers. While running, fire 2 shots right at this guy to get him all stirred up! The trick is to make those guards come to investigate. It doesn't matter whether you hit the guard although I did drop him one time by luck.

Run and fire!

Keep running to the back door underneath the camera. Don't stop. Walk the last bit straight to the door. The camera should be turned away just as you reach the door. Unlock it and crouchwalk in. If you make noise running up to the door then the guard inside turns to investigate. If this happens then when you open the door, lay flat and crawl in to get away from the camera and fire a single shot right into his face. He won't see you crawl inside. If he hasn't turned then crouchwalk up behind him and slice him.

Stand and walk to the inside door and unlock it. Crouchwalk up to the guard facing away from you and slice him. Breaking his neck takes too long.

Now, get out your silenced pistol and crouch walk over to the left side of the door of the computer room. Here's a trick. Put your crosshairs on a spot on the wall to the left of the door. Switch to your infrared and remember which 'cell' on your goggle's vision is on thaat spot on the wall. Then move that 'cell' to the back of the guard's head. Switch back to your pistol and your crosshairs should now be aimed square at the back of the guy's head inside the computer room. Fire! He drops. If you miss and he opens the door than drill him.

Once he's down, stand up, open the door, and use the computer.

Reload your pistol and RUN all the way back out just the way you came in. When you exit the door beneath the camera, step to your left around the corner of the building and run to the fence across the road. Toss your rifle.

Now you're going to find out if you succeeded in making the guards on patrol come out to investigate. If you fired quick enough and stirred them up real good then 2 of the guards will be now standing behind the truck by the main gate. The other guy is running around crazy behind the containers out back. If it didn't work then they're still on patrol. Start over!

You can't walk or run down the fence and into the container area because the guards on the other side of the truck will see you. Walk part of the way along the fence then crouchwalk the rest of the way and turn and head into the container area. Crouchwalk a little ways down the entrance then stand and run! Cut diagonally across to the RIGHT SIDE of the containers heading towards where the guards are standing by the alarm.

Remember, you can't run TOO close to the guards up ahead because they'll turn and see you. You can't even crouchwalk either! Dive to a crawl about 2 containers behind the guards. Crawl along the containers on the right and crawl into the opening just behind the guards. Once you turn into that area, stand and walk around that container. This causes the two guards to turn and look away from the area by the alarm switch. When you get behind that container there crouchwalk again over to the wall. Crawl along the wall right underneath the alarm button while the guards are looking away and right around to the other side of the wall. Nobody saw you!

At this point, you've activated the computer, and gotten through the entire container area in record time and nobody saw a thing. And, they don't even know you've killed all the guys inside the building with the computer!

Now crouch walk past the boxes beside the building then stand and walk toward the back fence. Once past the building with the gaurds, RUN over to the control on the gate. Give a quick glance at the camera. Usually it's either pointed in one direction or the other. Rarely does this camera catch me opening the gate. I still keep an eye on it though.

Open the gate and RUN underneath the camera and behind the fork lifts in the lot and straight toward that back wall. Keep running right alongside the wall and run all the way around to the back shack. Crouchwalk the rest of the way to the bottom of the ladder. Go up the ladder slowly. Now you are on the building!

Crouchwalk over to the sniper and slice him with your knife. Pick up his rifle and hopefully you'll get a grenade.

Crouchwalk over to the edge of the building and align yourself over the fence below. You are going to crouchwalk off the edge of the building and onto the right side of the top of the fence. If you do it right, you'll bounce off the top of the fence and land right next to the generator without even getting hurt. If you do it wrong then you'll bounce outside the fenced area. If you miss the fence entirely then you'll sustain a lot of damage. This is a shortcut down to the generator but it's a risky move.

Once in the fence area, turn on the generator. Crouchwalk to the doors. Open them and crouchwalk behind the front doors. Here's what you do. Stand close to the doors and unlock them. Let the doors open then quickly close. Check your map computer to see where the guards are on their patrol outside. If they are way out front then open the doors and run to your LEFT behind the buildings and run completely around and out the gate the same way you came in. Nobody sees you. If they are just going into the area between the two buildings to your left then you have to keep watching your map computer to the opportune time to quickly open the doors and RUN to the RIGHT and head straight to the fence on the right and run part way along that fence and quickly dive to a crawl else the guards on the second floor will fire at your through the window. Also, you need to get flat on the ground because the guards between the buildings are coming around now to investigate who just opened those front doors! Keep crawling! Crawl along the fence until you get past the light tower. Once behind the tower stand and RUN out the gate.

Once you've exited the gate, run to the right side of the container-lifter between you and the crane so the sniper on the crane won't see you. Dive to a crawl before you reach the container-lifter. If you go too far, the sniper fires!

Crawl up a bit and take out your binoculars. Zoom in on the sniper. Switch to your pistol and put 2 shots right into his chest. Use your infrared to make sure he's down. This is a tough shot! Take this guy out without too many misses else your accuracy goes down.

Once he's dead, RUN to the crane. Go up the stairs. Pick up the rifle and HOPEFULLY you'll get a grenade too! Sometimes I've picked up one from the sniper on the roof and one from the guy on the crane. Other times I don't get any grenades at all. If you don't get any grenades then it'll be tough to finish the mission on time.

Go to the top of the crane. Activate the crane then run down the stairs. Go through the entrance in the broken wall. Stop and toss your rifle, pistol, and grenades on the ground right there behind the container. RUN to your left and around to the back of the building with the catwalk. Go inside and RUN to the office door. Open the door and use the computer. Animation starts.

As SOON AS YOU USE THE COMPUTER, immediately hit "ESC' to stop the animation. Slice the guard right in front of you and dive into the water. Don't dive too far out because then the other guard will shoot you. Get alongside the wall quickly once in the water. Swim along the wall to the ladder by the crane. Climb the ladder fast. The clock is still running!

Go into the broken wall and pickup your stuff. Grab a grenade and crouch by the wall there so you're facing White and his bodyguards standing by the truck. What you are going to do is to toss your grenade so it wipes out the whole bunch in one huge fireball. This is a critical grenade throw! If they all don't die then you'll never finish in time.

Lastly, there are two guards running around that platform. Don't just start firing with the rifle if BOTH guards are in your sites because you'll kill one but the other will see you and start firing! You have to position yourself so that you can see only ONE GUARD in your sites. Kill him.

Quickly check your map computer to find out where the last guard is! Don't let him sneak up on you. Switch to your silenced pistol and adjust your position to the far side of the shipping container there. The last guard will come around the side of the container where you just were sniping from. Lay flat on the other side of the container and as he comes around the corner of the container, drill him!

Once you take the last guard out, RUN and jump off the platform onto the plane's wing. Mission accomplished!

Tough mission! You have to beat the accuracy and health AND the clock to get David Jones status. It's frustrating but don't give up.

I finished in 9:16 with 100% health and 100% accuracy.

Good luck!
